The Year of Luigi is finally coming to an end next month. Shigeru Miyamoto posted a message on Miiverse earlier today and confirmed that the festivities will conclude on March 18.

With the year-long event’s end, Nintendo is closing off the Year of Luigi Miiverse Community and its Developers’ Room to new post and comments. Miyamoto is asking fans to leave a few words for Luigi on his post as a means of bringing closure.

You can find Miyamoto’s message in full below.

Hey everyone, how was your Valentine’s Day? Maybe you spent the day with your loved ones; maybe you spent it devouring chocolate. Personally I spent the day slaving over a Word document, trying my hardest to convey my true feelings on a truly bizarre romance. No, I wasn’t writing some kind of love letter – I was musing on Konami’s hella heteronormative “girlfriend simulator”, LovePlus. Games tend to stay away from handling romantic relationships, especially when compared to other mediums, so I was curious to see if this Nintendo DS title was really as original (and weird) as I’d heard. So can love truly blossom between a grown man and a DS cartridge?

The answer to that question is no. Absolutely not. But as someone who is fascinated in the potential of games to blend narrative and gameplay in developing fictional relationships, LovePlus is an incredibly interesting, albeit flawed take on interactive romance.

Nicalis isn’t done trying to bring The Binding of Isaac to Nintendo platforms. Founder Tyrone Rodriguez, writing on Twitter, said yesterday that he still hasn’t “given up on” finding a way to make a version happen for the big N’s systems (presumably 3DS at the very least).

Rodriguez’s tweet in full:

One of the main obstacles preventing a release of The Binding of Isaac on Nintendo platforms is the game’s religious aspects. Nintendo won’t approve it due to this content.

Activision has officially announced Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, set to release on various formats in June.

Here’s the game’s official overview:

Serving as a follow-up to both the upcoming TRANSFORMERS live-action film and Activision’s TRANSFORMERS: WAR FOR CYBERTRON and TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON titles, TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE DARK SPARK jumps worlds and factions as it weaves the tale of the hunt for an ancient relic as powerful as the Matrix of Leadership – the Dark Spark. Players will be able to switch between the heroes of the noble AUTOBOTS and the nefarious DECEPTICONS throughout the single-player campaign. Similar to High Moon Studios’CYBERTRON entries in the highly regarded series, gameplay features nimble, fast-paced running-and-gunning combat paired with traversal and vehicle action across open battlefields for large-scale, dynamic conflicts.

Rise of the Dark Spark will feature the return of Escalation – a wave-based, survival-style gameplay mode that supports up to four players online cooperatively. Players will also find new, upgradeable defense systems, recognizable adversaries, and even more playable characters from past and present.

Developer Edge of Reality has also included a new leveling system so that progress is unified in single-player and multiplayer. “Experience earned in any part of the game unlocks potent awards and tactical loadout choices – including new characters, stronger weapons, special abilities and consumable bonuses – for use throughout the entire game,” Activision says.

Along with today’s screenshot, Sakurai passed along the following message on Miiverse:

Little Mac can deliver some solid punches while fighting on the ground.

With Yumi’s Odd Odyssey’s North American launch just on the horizon, we spoke with Natsume’s Graham Markay and Kiyoshi Sakai, one of the series’ original developers. Topics include the game’s digital-only release, returning to the franchise after it had been dormant for so many years, and more. We also asked Natsume about a few other things such as Virtual Console and Wii U support.

We’ve split up the interview into a couple of pages – you’ll find Markay’s comments below and Sakai’s remarks on page two.

Back in 2009, Nocturnal released Flowerworks for WiiWare. Now the studio is wrapping up a souped-up version, Flowerworks HD: Follie’s Adventure, for the Wii U eShop.

Nocturnal hasn’t shared many details about what’s new in this version, though “more information about the game and its features will be announced in the coming weeks.” The game has already been submitted to Nintendo and should be out soon.

You can find a few screenshots from Flowerworks HD: Follie’s Adventure above.
