Nintendo hacker Gary Bowser released early

We heard in February 2022 that Gary Bowser, someone who has been painted as a hacker at Team Xecuter, was sentenced to 40 months of prison. However, it turns out that he’s about to be released early due to good behavior (plus the time already served).

Bowser will be sent home to Canada. While that’s all well and good, there’s a good chance he’ll be paying for the rest of his life. Bowser was sentenced to pay $10 million, which he’ll most certainly be unable to meet.

Switch update 16.0.2

A new firmware update has just gone out for Switch, and version 16.0.2 should be rolling out for everyone.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, stability is again the focus here. This is a pattern we’ve seen with the past several updates.

Nintendo has shared the following patch notes for the Switch version 16.0.2 update:

Klonoa design

Yoshihiko Arai, the original creator of the design for Klonoa, has provided a bit of insight into the character. This comes as part of a recent interview with Lost In Cult.

“Namco wanted to create some catchy designs that would appeal to a variety of customers,” Arai said. One inspiration here was Sherlock Hound, an early animated series from Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli fame.

1080° Snowboarding cancelled Giles Goddard

Giles Goddard, the lead designer and programmer on 1080° Snowboarding, originally thought the game would be cancelled. He reflected on the N64 classic in a recent issue of Retro Gamer.

The N64 game was a fairly strong success for Nintendo thanks to a favorable critical reception and sales that crossed two million copies worldwide. However, it actually didn’t test well internally. Because of this, Goddard felt Nintendo would simply scrap the project. Had the company ended up moving forward, Goddard believed it would end up becoming “a complete flop”.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been out for a little over a week now, and we want to hear your impressions.

This was a big deal for Nintendo as one of its first real cracks at cinema since the live-action Mario film many, many years ago. There was a lot of pressure to get it right, and while some of the reviews have been mixed, it’s already proven to be a huge success.

If you’ve been able to check out The Super Mario Bros. Movie, what’d you think of it? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
