System: Switch
Release date: August 29, 2017
Developer: Ubisoft
Publisher: Ubisoft

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger turnabout regarding the reception of a game than I have with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. When the first major leak regarding Ubisoft’s newest Nintendo crossover game happened, the general reaction was one of confusion and general displeasure. That was the case up until Ubisoft’s E3 2017 press conference in June, where Mario + Rabbids was finally unveiled in full with the help of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto himself. That, compounded with a truly heartwarming moment from the game’s creative director Davide Soliani and the overall presentation of the game, quickly garnered new feelings of excitement and hope that Mario + Rabbids was something to look forward to. So, after months of anticipation, is Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle able to keep that feeling of hope and excitement alive, or does it leave us wishing the Rabbids would have just stayed home?

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon are receiving another special package. On Twitter, Nintendo just announced the Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon Veteran Trainer’s Dual Pack. It includes both games, 16 art cards, and 200 Poke Balls.

Also announced previously is the Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon Steelbook Dual Pack. That one will be an Amazon exclusive.

Double Dragon IV

Double Dragon IV will launch for Switch on September 7 via the eShop, Arc System Works has just announced. This should apply to all regions – North America, Europe, and Japan.

Double Dragon IV debuted earlier this year and was created as the next core entry in the series. On Switch, docked, portable, and tabletop modes will be supported. Two players will be supported with each option.

Here’s a previous overview in English from Arc System Works:

Nintendo Switch

Switch stock has been an issue for Nintendo since the console launched in March. Six months later, the situation has improved slightly, but the system is still difficult to find in many areas.

The Wall Street Journal covered the Switch stock situation in a new article. It covers mostly what we’ve talked about before – things like lotteries in Japan and inconsistent units available in the states.

Super Mario Odyssey follows the same style as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine by featuring sandbox gameplay. However, the Switch title will set itself apart in one notable way.

When Nintendo live streamed from Gamescom earlier this week with producer Yoshiaki Koizumi, it was briefly mentioned that no hub world is included in Super Mario Odyssey. Although some may have assumed that a hub world wouldn’t be included, this is the first time Nintendo has confirmed it directly.

Fire Emblem Warriors will offer something that we haven’t really seen with Switch games before. In this month’s issue of Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream, it’s revealed that the game will allow players to select a higher frame rate in exchange for a lower resolution.

GameStop reported its second quarter financial results this week. Among what the retailer highlighted, Switch sales have been very strong. Switch drove sales in Q2, and GameStope is now the leading retailer in terms of the system’s market share.

During its financial conference call, GameStop CEO Paul Raines and CFO Robert Lloyd went in-depth on just how much of a positive factor Nintendo’s console has been. In fact, Raines even highlighted the fact that Switch is the company’s “most successful Nintendo launch ever.” Demand has continued to be strong, which is expected to continue leading up through the holidays.

Here’s what Raines shared about Switch, as transcribed by Seeking Alpha:

Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata stirred up quite a storm this week. When he appeared on a Twitch stream to promote Final Fantasy XV, he strong hinted that the game will be ending up on Switch in some form.

To recap, Tabata teased:

You asked the question, what other things do we have planned in the future? We can’t give you any complete, solid details right at the moment but for our policy writers we very much do want to move out and do as much as we can with the game, with the franchise. There’s another certain console out there people may be thinking of; sounds little bit like you guys, your name, “Twitch”… I think we’ll just leave it there.

Everyone on Final Fantasy XV, they love this specific console that sounds a lot like “Twitch” – you may want to think something about that in the future.
