During the Q&A section of its latest financial results briefing, Nintendo was asked about the design concept for Switch’s Joy-Con. Senior executive officer Ko Shiota, managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi, and Shigeru Miyamoto all weighed in on this.
Shiota said that the “Joy-Con was designed from the start of development as a device that could have a variety of uses besides being a game controller, including the possibility of attachment to something else for play.” Nintendo also thought about the Joy-Con could be used by setting it in an attachment. Takahashi later added that Nintendo “considered play using just the hardware and software, as well as play in combination with other things.”

One topic brought up during the Q&A portion of Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing. President Tatsumi Kimishima and Shigeru Miyamoto both weighed in.
Kimishima noted that Nintendo looks to avoid selling hardware at a launch. Additionally, the company thinks about a price that “consumers will consider fair value and Nintendo-esque.” For software, Kimishima said “it is important that the software contain content of value, and that the value of the content not vary even if the way it is provided changes.”

As part of its latest financial results, Nintendo finally confirmed that a new animated Mario movie is on the way. Illumination is being brought in to work on the project.

Nintendo on making Switch appealing among a broader consumer base

During the Q&A portion of Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing, the company was asked about any issues / risk factors now that weren’t considered before launch. This prompted managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi, senior executive officer Ko Shiota, and Shigeru Miyamoto to talk about the need to increase the appeal of Switch to all age groups, regardless of gender.
Miyamoto commented on this as well, and said something interesting. Nintendo wants each individual person to own a Switch as opposed to every family in general.
Nintendo on expanding into China

Right now, Nintendo doesn’t have too much of a presence in China. That doesn’t mean the company isn’t interested in expanding in the country, however.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima commented on plans for China. Currently the Big N is looking into how it can have more of a foothold there and is “consulting with various other parties on aspects we cannot tackle alone.” Kimishima added that “would like to realize this as quickly as possible”.

An update on Nintendo Switch Online was financial provided during Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing. We finally know that the service will be launching in September.
During the Q&A session of its financial results briefing, Nintendo commented on this just a bit further. Both president Tatsumi Kimishima and managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi weighed in on the service, with Takahashi stating that the next announcement will be worth the wait.

Nintendo surprised everyone last month with the announcement of Nintendo Labo last month. Going after kids and kids at heart, Nintendo Labo will allow Switch owners to make creations out of cardboard and then use them with compatible applications / mini-games.
Using cardboard may have seemed out of left field, but it ended up being a natural fit. Nintendo commented on the entire Nintendo Labo project including the reception and the decision to feature cardboard.

Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf releasing on Switch next week

Forge Reply has announced that Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf is coming to Switch. The game is actually due out very soon, as it’s set for February 16. You should be able to pre-load the game starting today.
Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf offers a “mix of non-linear reading content, deep character customization and a rewarding combat system.” It’s based on the “choose your own adventure” gamebooks of the 80. Dever was involved with the development of this title having written the story and “driving the work of the whole team with his inspiring passion.”

Legend of Kay Anniversary announced for Switch

Legend of Kay Anniversary is coming to Switch, THQ Nordic has announced. A release is planned for sometime in 2018.
You may recall that Legend of Kay Anniversary previously appeared on Wii U. At the moment we aren’t aware of any major changes from that version.

tinyBuild to announce six new Switch games during a broadcast tomorrow

tinyBuild has published a couple of games on Switch thus far. Last year, the company brought Mr. Shifty and Phantom Trigger to the system. tinyBuild hasn’t had any new announcements for Switch in recent months, but that’s about to change.
A new “Hello Switch” broadcast will be held tomorrow in which six new games will be announced. It’ll be hosted at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM in the UK / 7 PM in Europe.
