Super Mario Maker trailer shows updated skinny Mario design
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 12 Comments
When Super Mario Maker was unveiled at last year’s E3, we saw a strange-looking power-up known as the “Luigi Mushroom”. This took on a different appearance compared to the Super Mushroom that we’re used to. It’s taller and skinnier, which is how Mario transformed after coming into contact with it.
The latest Super Mario Maker trailer uploaded by Nintendo of Europe seems to show an updated design for Mario’s skinnier form. It’s only on screen for about a second or two, but you can view a screengrab above.
As a reminder, here’s what Mario looked like at last year’s E3 after touching the Luigi Mushroom:
Thanks to Yoosuf for the tip.

The Super Mario Maker “hackathon” event at Facebook concluded earlier today. The winning level? “Ship Love”.
This level will be available as a free download for Super Mario Maker players when the game launches on September 11. We don’t have a great look at the course yet, but an off-screen image was posted by Nintendo’s Kit Ellis on Twitter – see above.

This week’s issue of Famitsu has a first look at Monster Strike on 3DS. There are debut screenshots of the game as well as a few details.
Famitsu reports that the 3DS version of Monster Strike features the same story and characters as the anime adaptation. Players will be able to explore a 3D field and complete quests. It’s an RPG with a strong adventure element. Just like in the anime, the main character uses a smartphone.
Famitsu might be sharing more details about Monster Strike in its next issue. However, that information could be exclusively about the anime. We’ll see!

13AM Games on how Runbow’s guest character appearances came to be
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U eShop | 0 comments
Runbow features guest appearances from a bunch of other indie titles. The lineup includes Rusty from SteamWorld Dig, Shovel Knight from Yacht Club’s indie hit, and plenty more.
13AM Games spoke about how these collaborations came to be in an interview with Toronto GameDevs. The studio explained:
It all started at IndieCade 2014, where Nintendo invited us to demo our game. At the event, our booth was next to developers like Yacht Club Games and Ronimo Games. Our character at the time, Hue, had a pretty similar facial structure to Shovel Knight and the we jokingly asked if we could throw him in our game. After hearing the idea out loud, both sides realized it was actually an interesting proposition. They agreed and we used this show of faith and a little help from Nintendo to reach out and contact as many indie Wii U developers we could. Due to the awesome nature of indie developers, we received a bunch of positive feedback and quickly assembled a pretty large cast of interesting characters. From there, it was just on our artist’s to realize these other characters in our art style and make them all work, and I think they nailed it.
Runbow is due out sometime in Q3. No specific release date yet, though we’ll let you know as soon as we hear something on that front.

Dark Pit amiibo expected to be fairly well-stocked at Best Buy on Friday
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 2 Comments
All things considered, last week’s sale of the Palutena amiibo on Amazon’s website went quite well. The figure’s availability lasted about an hour, so many consumers were able to get an order in.
There may be similar luck when Dark Pit goes on sale at Best Buy this Friday. We’re hearing that many stores in the United States will have roughly 50 units on hand, with some locations getting as many as 80. The lowest number seems to be at around 15 currently, but on the whole, Dark Pit should be relatively well-stocked.
Splatoon – points and rank not affected in Private Battle, can password protect lobbies
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 9 Comments
The Japanese Splatoon Twitter account has continued sharing tidbits about the game’s imminent update. This time around, we have more information about how Private Battle work.
When playing in Private Battle, your points total and rank will not be affected. Additionally, it’s possible to set a password so that you have more control over who enters the lobby.
Below is a translation of the latest tweets:
Another addition to the impending large update are “Private Matches”, a mode where you can enjoy free play online with your friends.
The number of players can be between 2 and 8, with the rules, stage, and team organisation being set as you like.
Be aware that you won’t receive any points for playing in a Private Match, victories and defeats won’t affect your skill level or rank.
You can also set a password, so you can be a little more careful about which friends can and can’t join.
