Mega Flygon is something that could have existed… had it not been for artist’s block.

That nugget of information was shared in the latest issue of Nintendo Dream, which features an interview with Game Freak’s Ken Sugimori, Shigeru Ohmori (Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire director), Shigeki Morimoto (game developer), and Kazumasa Iwao (Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire map designer).

Sugimori’s specifically shared the following:

Sugimori: For Aarune, he needed to have a Pokemon that could use the moves Fly and Secret Power, which are perfect moves for finding Secret Bases. And the only Hoenn Pokemon that wasn’t used by a key character that fit that criteria was Flygon. It does not Mega Evolve, but I really like Flygon.

Interviewer: Key characters often carry a Pokemon that can Mega Evolve, but Flygon is an exception, right?

Sugimori: Flygon has had the potential to have a Mega Evolution since XY, but we were unable to complete a design and so it was dropped from consideration.

Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Japanese launch is just one week away, but Monolith Soft hasn’t stopped updating the game’s official website. The most recent content added to the page covers the Kizunagram and online functionality. For a roundup of the new information, check out the summary below (thanks Gessenkou).

Kizunagram

– Kizunagram (or affinity chart) revolves around the relationships between characters
– View relationship types and bond strength between the player and other characters, traits of those characters, and their relationships with other characters in the chart
– Players can view the links between characters they’ve met
– Raise bonds with allies beyond a certain point to grow them even stronger
– This allows you to take on special Kizuna Quests
– It also causes special events called “Kizuna Talks” (heart-to-hearts)
– Characters respond differently to different choices you make
– This includes accepting and completing special Kizuna Quests, finishing Story Quests and Normal Quests, completing an ally’s Soul Voice, and viewing Kizuna Talks
– Can view the bonds formed with other players met through the online mode

Online Features

– Xenoblade X’s online is characterized by being “loosely connected” to other players
– If you play the game while your Wii U is connected to the internet, you’ll meet other players’ avatars in the field or BLADE Area
– Scout these avatars and add them to your party
– The other players do not control their avatars during that time
– Other players can add your avatar to their party, where the avatar will gain exp
– Can join Squads while connected to the Internet
– Squads can have up to 32 members
– Members of the same squad become loosely connected, view Reports sent by each other, and can cooperate in battle
– Life Point Search Squads: Intended for players who prefer to take their time playing solo
– Conquest Squads: Intended for players who want to proactively engage in multiplayer
– Friend’s Squads: Join the same squads as your friends
– Can change your squad while playing

HullBreach Studios passed along new information about its upcoming plans, including new games and previously-released titles. The latest news covers Defense Dome, SDK Paint, Tomeling: Darkness Falls and SDK Spriter. Read on below to find out what’s new with each of these releases.

Defense Dome New Trailer
(Powered By Nintendo Framework)

DEFENSE DOME:

Development just finished on this title, and it was sent to Nintendo for review today. We will announce when the release date is set. For those new to this game, it is a gyroscope-controlled arcade-style shooter, where you launch countermeasures to shoot down incoming missiles. The Wii U GamePad acts as a zoomable scope. The initial launch will come with 2 levels: Mountains (tutorial mode) and Hurricane (blitz mode). Future levels will be in the form of inexpensive add-on content. No 2 levels will be alike in this: some will be first-person perspective; others will be heavy on power-ups. Some levels will be based on ideas posted to Miiverse, so the gamers will help design the future levels! Defense Dome is fully translated into English, French, and Spanish.

SDK PAINT

A demo for SDK Paint is pending review with Nintendo right now. This demo previews just Painting mode, and it provides screenshots for other modes. The next update to SDK Paint is in development. It will contain direct Miiverse posting, more brushes, bug fixes, and a redesigned interface. Additionally, there will be add-on Galleries and add-on shaders (like fisheye, motion blur, ripple, etc.). The plan is to also build online sharing into this version, linking artwork with SDKPaint.com and some upcoming Wii U titles.

TOMELING: DARKNESS FALLS:

This RPG stars an ancient tome that has come to life and his human companions, as they journey to save the world from a demonic incursion. The gameplay will be reminiscent of some of the classic games of the 1990s. We hope to have a video teaser ready in the next few weeks. The target release is in the fall.

SDK SPRITER:

This end-to-end 2D game level design studio will allow gamers to draw animated sprites, draw tilesets, build tilemaps, and combine everything into playable levels. The levels will come in the forms of parallax sidescroller, overhead platformer, and “Mode 7”. Artists will be able to share content over Miiverse. The target release is in the summer.
