Update: Bumped to the top. Along with Super Mario Bros., Doom, Pac-Man, Pong, Tetris, and World of Warcraft are being inducted.

Super Mario Bros. has been inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame, Nintendo has announced.

A committee of journalists, scholars and video game industry members made the decision to honor the classic NES title. Games selected for recognition are based on the criteria of icon-status, longevity, geographical reach, and influence.

Super Mario Bros. is one of six titles being inducted into the inaugural class in the World Video Game Hall of Fame at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.

Kevin Pereira, who is perhaps best known for his time on the G4 television program Attack of the Show, may be hosting the Nintendo World Championships 2015.

Pereira wrote the following on his Twitter account earlier today:

Assuming I’m not reading into this too much, Pereira could be hosting the Nintendo World Championships. Geoff Keighley was thought to be a potential host since he led the way on last year’s Smash Bros. Invitational, though he could be too preoccupied with YouTube’s new Live at E3 initiative. I suppose we’ll find out soon enough!

Thanks to Antonio E for the tip.

Nintendo has opened the European Yoshi’s Woolly World website. Access it here.

The site contains pretty much what you’d expect – plenty of details, screenshots, and gameplay clips. We’ve covered Yoshi’s Woolly World extensively in all of these forms, but you can visit the site to get a refresh on the game.

Nintendo created a new patch for Girls Mode 3. In Japan, version 1.2.0 was released yesterday.

Here’s a quick overview as to what’s new/changed:

– Support for the NFC reader accessory
– Support for the Yarn Yoshi and Dr. Mario amiibo (in-game items)
– Fixes issues within modes like AR Photo and Photo Studio
– Other general fixes/improvements to improve the gameplay experience

The new Girls Mode 3 update can be obtained in one of two ways. Players can either download it directly from the Home Menu (enable Internet and then click on the game icon), or by grabbing it straight from the eShop.

Splatoon Update

Kicking off a steady stream of free content additions throughout the summer, Splatoon has a new weapon and map: the nostalgia-packed N-Zap ’85 rapid-fire shooter and the Port Mackerel map, both available now. The N-ZAP ’85 is a shooter with excellent ink efficiency and rapid-fire capability. Its attack power isn’t all that, but it’s fabulous at quickly charging up the Echolocator special weapon. Combined with Splat Bombs, this set caters to fighters who like to cover a lot of ground in battle. For more information, visit http://splatoon.nintendo.com.
