Just about everyone was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic in one way or another this year. Nintendo was not spared, as the company was affected in various ways and had plans impacted. We saw Switch shipments slow, its repair centers temporarily close, and more.

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser further discussed the situation in an interview with PolygonWhen asked how the coronavirus impacted Nintendo, Bowser said:

Tales of the Abyss

The Tales of series is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Bandai Namco recently had fans vote on a few categories. They were able to share their most-played titles in the franchise, favorite theme songs, and best battle systems. The results of these rankings were shared during a 25th-anniversary live stream yesterday.

Here’s a look at how things panned out:

Ray tracing, which allows for more realistic lighting, only really started to find prominence over the past few years. When you hear the technical term, you tend to think of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and high-end PCs. But one fan has now made ray tracing possible on the SNES with a modified cartridge.

Ben Carter of Shironeko Labs says he “wanted to try and do was something akin to the Super FX chip used in titles such as Star Fox”. The SuperRT demo works “where the SNES runs the game logic and hands off a scene description to a chip in the cartridge to generate the visuals.”

Here’s a look at it in action:

Dragonite Build-A-Bear

Switch PlayStation Xbox

Xbox published an announcement today in which the company says it is aligned with Nintendo and PlayStation in ensuring the safety of players, particularly when it comes to online gaming. “We can accomplish more when we work toward the same goal, and so we will each continue investing in, evolving, and amplifying our approaches to user safety,” the notice states.

The announcement mentions three key principles: prevention, partnership, and responsibility. That means empowering players/parents to understand and control gaming experiences, partnering with the industry, regulators, law enforcement, and communities to advance user safety, and making platforms as safe as possible for all players.

Intelligent Systems is directly involved with the figure. It’s also based on the illustration from Sachiko Wada, who worked on the GBA game.
