Yooka-Laylee celebrated its very first birthday this week. To celebrate, developer Playtonic shared a brief blog post here.

The big takeaways from the post are a couple of interesting teases. Playtonic says the team has been “far too busy working on covert goodness”. We’ll soon be hearing about “extra content for Yooka-Laylee” as well as “other stuff.”

What could “other stuff” be? A new game? Something else? Hopefully we’ll have more news to share soon.

Billy Mitchell has been the focus of much scrutiny this week. Twin Galaxies determined that Mitchell’s high scores achieved in Donkey Kong were not earned on natural arcade hardware, but rather through emulation which leaves the door open to cheating. Mitchell’s scores were thrown out, and he was banned from submitting future scores in the future. Guinness World Records is also wiping the slate clean.

We haven’t heard from Mitchell himself this week – until today. At the Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, he offered up the following statement:

It was about a couple of weeks ago that a new month rolled right in. Now that we’re in April, we want to know what you’ve been playing.

Have you started up something entirely new for the month? Are you tackling something from your backlog? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments below!

If there’s one person who has something to gain from Billy Mitchell’s high scores in Donkey Kong having been thrown out, it would be Steve Wiebe. As depicted in the 2007 documentary, The King of Kong, Wiebe had been attempting to overtake Mitchell’s score at the time.

So what does Wiebe make of the recent controversy surrounding Mitchell? Before saying that it’s been “surreal” being back in the news a decade later, he told Variety:

GDC has published the full Sonic the Hedgehog presentation hosted last month, which we have below. During the session, Naoto Ohshima and Hirokazu Yasuhara spoke about their perspectives on the creation of franchise including detailed recollections of the game’s original design process and art direction.

Yesterday, a new Nintendo patent was made available for public viewing. The company is protecting an idea for a game system with “a plurality of information processing apparatuses that are capable of communicating with each other.”

Digital Trends, who stumbled upon the patent, points out that the apparatuses are found inside separate screens. When multiple screens are touched, information can be exchanged for new game experiences.

This week’s episode of Nintendo Minute has gone live. In today’s video, Kit and Krysta, talk about the trip they took to Kyoto and visiting Nintendo’s main headquarters. Check out the full episode below.

Yesterday, Twin Galaxies delivered its verdict surrounding Billy Mitchell. It was ultimately decided to have Mitchell’s scores in Donkey Kong and other games removed. Moreover, he will no longer be able to submit scores to Twin Galaxies.

In line with Twin Galaxies’ decision, Guinness World Records is also removing Mitchell’s Donkey Kong scores along with his records for Pac-Man. This is due to the belief that Mitchell achieved his scores through emulation software and was not earned on an arcade machine.

Guinness said in a statement:

Off the Hook will have its third live performance later this month at Niconico Chokaigi 2018, Nintendo announced today. The concert will follow the events at Game Party Japan and the Splatoon European Championship.

The performance should be similar to the previous two outings. In addition though, Nintendo says that fans can look forward to a new song.

Off the Hook will be performing at Niconico Chokaigi 2018 on April 28.
