For the first Nintendo World Championships, three winners were selected. Jeff Hansen won in the 11 and under category, Thor Aackerlund was victorious in the 12-17 category, and Robert Whiteman took home the prize in the 18 and older category.

With the Nintendo World Championships’ return this weekend, Hansen and Aackerlund are returning for the festivities. Both will be present as guests of honors.

The Legend of Zelda will be one of the games participants will be tasked with conquering at the Nintendo World Championships 2015. Today, Nintendo shared information about how it will be played.

Participants will be asked to speedrun from the beginning of the game to the first dungeon’s end. The first player to raise the Triforce piece will be recognized as the winner.

The Nintendo World Championships 2015 will take place this Sunday at 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT.

On May 30, Nintendo World Championships 2015 qualifying events were held at a few Best Buy locations across the United States. Eight winners were ultimately chosen to compete in the tournament this coming Sunday. And today, Nintendo announced the results on its Twitter account.

Below you’ll find the full lineup of winners from the Nintendo World Championships 2015 qualifying events. The actual tournament will kick off at 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT this Sunday.

Over in Europe, Nintendo has picked up a trademark for Diddy Kong. The name was just filed and made public today.

Does this mean anything? My personal guess would be no, but I’ve been wrong plenty of times before!

There’s been a whole bunch of speculation about what will/won’t be at the Nintendo Digital Event next week. Some people have been wondering what Retro Studios has been up to, for example. And based on a tweet the company sent out earlier in the week, some believe that Retro could unveil a new game during Nintendo’s E3 presentation.


Could Retro be developing a Diddy Kong game of sorts? What if a developer like Monster Games was put in charge of a new Diddy Kong Racing?

Le Journal des Loisirs Interactifs is reporting that Nintendo has sold more than 450,000 amiibo in France. That number accounts for all figures moved since launch last November. The last number we heard about was in January, when Nintendo said it had sold over 200,000 amiibo in France.

One user over on Reddit has managed to pick up the latest amiibo from Japan. These include the Zero Suit Samus, Palutena, Dark Pit, and Ganondorf figures. Photos of each can be found in the gallery below.

A new video added to Nintendo’s YouTube channel reveals additional details about the Nintendo World Championships 2015.

First, it’s now confirmed that Kevin Pereira will be hosting. Pereira suggested on his Twitter account last week that he’d be leading the proceedings.

We also know about some of the players participating in the Nintendo World Championships. Sinister1 (speedrunner), Cosmo (speedrunner), TheMexicanRunner (NES completionist), Bananas (speedrunner), Essentia (speedrunner), Trihex (speedrunner), Jovenshire (Smosh Games), and Arin (Game Grumps). will be at the tournament. There will also be eight winners from the Nintendo World Championship Qualifiers at Best Buy that will be announced soon.

djWHEAT, Andre (Black Nerd Comendy), and Justin Flynn will be commentators.

Finally, it’s confirmed that Splatoon will be featured at the Nintendo World Championships, and it will be the first time that it’s played in a tournament setting.

The Nintendo World Championships 2015 will be held on June 14 at 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT. A pre-show will kick off 25 minutes before the show.
