Last month, a trademark for “Great Detective Pikachu” was registered in Japan. The name was finally published in the database today. Might it be the title of the new Pikachu detective game for 3DS? It’s certainly a possibility!

Unsurprisingly, Activision will be returning next year with new entries in its two most-popular franchises.

The next Call of Duty and Skylanders are both scheduled to launch in 2014. Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision, confirmed the news during the company’s latest financial results earnings call yesterday.

He said:

“Despite short-term uncertainties, as we look forward to 2014, we have a very strong product pipeline. We expect multiple new releases across our major franchises, including the first Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls, along with the PS4 version of Diablo III and significant and exciting new content for World of Warcraft.

“We also expect to launch new Call of Duty and Skylanders titles and a major new potential franchise with Bungie’s Destiny.”

Believe it or not, Call of Duty: Ghosts houses a reference to The Legend of Zelda. A trophy, which seems shaped like a ruppee, contains the words “Awarded for most bushes cut and pots smashed.” Pretty neat!

It’s no secret that Beyond Good & Evil did not perform up to Ubisoft’s expectations. While the game was met with a great reception from critics, it wasn’t a financial hit.

The fact that Beyond Good & Evil was essentially a commercial failure still causes Ubisoft to be cautious today. According to Child of Light creative director Patrick Plourde, the publisher was hesitant to move forward the project.

Plourde told GamesIndustry:

“If the game is a missed opportunity, then it’s going to be a missed opportunity for years. Even when I pitched Child of Light, they mentioned Beyond Good & Evil. They said ‘Beyond Good & Evil was not a success, and we made that mistake once.’ And it’s like, yeah, but it’s 10 years ago… If somebody tries something and fails, there are going to be repercussions for other people. For me it would be a shame if that happens. I don’t think people are malevolent or evil about that. It’s just if it fails, they’re going to be careful greenlighting other projects like that.”

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has already visited plenty of time periods, locations, and settings. A new Assassin’s Creed game taking place in present day is unlikely, however.

Assassin’s Creed IV lead writer
more or less ruled out the possibility during a Reddit AMA he participated in earlier today. He said:

“I doubt we would do a modern day AC. There are just too many mechanics we would have to develop to make it believeable [sic] … vehicles, plausible modern cities, a huge array of ranged weapons, etc. The modern day will most likely remain as a “context” for all future games, something to tie them all together.”

We already knew GameTrailers TV would be hosting a special episode on Nintendo (as is the case every year), but we now have an exact date. The episode will air next Friday – November 15 – 1 AM.

Reggie Fils-Aime will be on hand to provide “a look at Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and more,” according to an official listing on Spike.

What’s next for Nintendo? GTTV is joined by Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime to get a look at Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and more.

Bill Trinen is expected to be appearing on the episode as well. What else is in store? Feel free to take your guesses!

Which platform do Japanese gamers want the next Dragon Quest on? Popular Japanese IT magazine Weekly ASCII sought answers to this very question, and decided to ask its readers for input.

The publication shared the following results after holding a poll:

PS4: 62%
Wii U: 8%
iPhone: 8%
PC: 5%
Tablets 3%
Android Smartphones: 3%
Xbox One: 1%
SH-01F Dragon Quest: 1%
Other: 9%

It’s important to note that there was no specific option for the 3DS, PlayStation 3, or PlayStation Vita. I imagine that would have impacted the results quite a bit had they been included.
