Splatoon 2’s new stage is “Musselforge Fitness” in the west, Slosher overview
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News | 1 Comment
At the end of last month, Nintendo unveiled a new Splatoon 2 stage for its Japanese audience. It roughly translated to “Barnacles Sports Club”, but an official English name has been introduced for the west: Musselforge Fitness.
That news comes straight from the Splatoon Tumblr. Aside from the stage, Nintendo also provides an overview about the changes made to the Slosher.
Here’s the full rundown:
SourceWe’ve gotten a first look inside one of the new stages–Musselforge Fitness. This state of the art work out facility contains a bouldering gym, a regulation-sized pool, and all the treadmills you could ever want. Judging from our research, today’s Inklings are foregoing the calisthenics and aerobics for more back-to-basics, iron-puming workouts.
In the Slosher category, the crowd-favorite Slosher is also making a return in Splatoon 2. The keen-eyed observer may notice that slight cosmetic adjustments have been made to the Slosher’s handle and suspension arm. These changes are in line with the cosmetic changes that other legacy weapons have recieved. It may seem a trivial change to some, but we at the Squid Research Lab feel that even the smallest changes must be documented in order to keep up with the ever-changing trends of the Inkling world.

Nintendo artists on coming up with the design for Ganondorf in Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 13 Comments
There’s no question that Ganondorf’s design in Ocarina of Time is extremely iconic. Ganon had appeared in previous titles in beast form, but the N64 game was Nintendo’s first attempt at giving him a humanoid form. Ganondorf’s look turned out well in the end fortunately, but it took some time to get there.
A couple of Nintendo artists spoke about creating Ganondorf’s design in the new Zelda: Art & Artifacts book. As the person in charge of enemies for Ocarina of Time, the job of making his model was left to Satoru Takizawa, who accomplished the task done after much trial and error.
Takizawa’s first attempt at Ganondorf resulted in a model that was actually “a lot thinner, and his head almost looked bird-like.” As for Yusuke Nakano, he came up with an illustration that had “wide-open eyes.” According to Takizawa, the art for Ganondorf “initially looked like a brute who had nothing but raw strength.”
Here’s the full discussion from Zelda: Art & Artifacts about Ganondorf’s design in Ocarina of Time:
Splatoon has a LAN connectivity feature
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 37 Comments
It’s already known that in Splatoon 2, up to eight Switch systems can be connected through local wireless. But on the series’ Tumblr page, Nintendo spoke about another secret LAN Play feature. This can be used to connect eight docked systems using a wired LAN setup. In doing so, you can participate in local Private Battle tournaments without connecting to the internet.
Nintendo adds:
“If you’re willing to put in the work to set up LAN Play, you can also use the Private Battle Spectator View feature by hooking up two additional Nintendo Switch systems. Local wireless play is perfect for your regular gaming get-togethers, but LAN Play is where it’s at when you want to organize a serious tournament event with your fellow players.”

Nintendo confirms spectator mode for Splatoon 2

Update: Here’s the news from Nintendo of America:
Exciting news for #Splatoon2 fans! Private Battle Spectator View is a new feature allowing up to 2 non-players to spectate a Private Battle. pic.twitter.com/4exL7trO1x

Original: Nintendo just shared an important piece of news about Splatoon 2 on the series’ official Twitter page.
Splatoon 2 has a “Private Battle Spectator View”, or basically a spectator mode. Other than the first eight participants who are playing, the ninth and tenth players can join as cameramen to view the battle. They can switch between bird’s-eye view and other players’ third-person views.
Two people can act as cameramen. If they wanted to, they could live stream using the special mode view, and could be broadcasters or commentators like a baseball game or Splatoon Koshien tournament. You also can show the turf map, so you can switch between each cameraman’s role, like one cameraman showing each player’s view while the other shows the map to determine how the battle is going.
Here’s a brief look at the functionality:
