Nintendo has filed all sorts of patents over the years. Some have been used by the company, while others have been tossed to the side. One such patent that never became an actual product is a 2001 filing for a phone.

You can see some of the images from the registration below. It’s pretty standard stuff for the most part, but it does also appear to show options to buy games.

Last September, a list of LEGO Dimensions “Series 2” set names appeared with code words. One of these had an “S” label, which prompted some to speculate that it could be for Sonic.

LEGO insider Just2Good dropped a hint that the label was referring to SEGA’s mascot back when the situation was transpiring. And yesterday, a second LEGO insider going by the name CM4Sci mentioned on EuroBricks stating that Sonic’s on his way to the game before adding, “I also know for a fact Sonic is in if that confirms anything”.

Brick Inquirer – who knows much more about these things than I do – says “CM4Sci’s word is about as good as it comes.” We’ll still consider Sonic’s appearance a rumor for now, but it’d definitely be interesting to see him in LEGO Dimensions. Perhaps this is one way in which SEGA will be celebrating Sonic’s 25th anniversary?

As for other hints pertaining to Series 2, Super Girl and Green Arrow are also rumored. Their additions would make quite a bit of sense!

4th May 2016 – The worlds of Mario and Sonic come together once more for 17 exciting events in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games™, arriving on Wii U across Europe on 24th June. Taking place in Rio de Janeiro, host city of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, the latest instalment of the series features over 30 playable characters, the ability to play as your Mii, and plenty of frantic four-player multiplayer action to enjoy with friends and family, including the new Duel Events, which give familiar sports a classic Mario & Sonic twist.

The action’s powered-up, familiar items like Bullet Bills and Chaos Emeralds are allowed, and chaotic multiplayer matches are guaranteed.
