Pokemon GO will be receiving a dedicated session at the Game Developer’s Conference next month. John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, will host “Catch ‘Em All: Pokemon GO and Real World Gaming”.
Here’s a description of the event:
“Over the last three years, Niantic, Inc. has been defining the genre of Real World gaming, using smartphones and tablets to connect the digital world to the physical world. Niantic’s newest game, Pokemon GO, ups the challenge of real world gaming design, taking a beloved franchise and setting its hundreds of brightly-colored monsters loose across the globe, adding a new Bluetooth wearable device created by Nintendo to the mix. Join Niantic founder and CEO John Hanke as he discusses how the company has developed a unique vision for delivering a mobile Pokemon experience that gets would-be trainers into the outdoors.”
GDC’s website also states that those who attend the session “will get a first-hand, in-depth look at how players are interacting and exploring the world with one another through Pokemon GO, the collaborative approach to design and development for the game and the next evolution of augmented reality and real-world mobile gameplay experiences.”
A specific date for the Catch ‘Em All: Pokemon GO and Real World Gaming session has not yet been announced. GDC 2016 takes place between March 14 and March 18.

Update: Here’s a comparison of the North American and Japanese boxarts:

SEGA is localizing 7th Dragon III Code: VFD, the company announced today. The game is due out in North America this summer for $39.99 / CA$54.99. It’ll be sold both physically and digitally.
7th Dragon III is actually the first game in the series to be sold overseas. That being said, SEGA notes that the story is comprehensive, so no prior knowledge of the series is necessary.

Nintendo will have an update on NX “not too late in the course of this year”

Update: Some are wondering if the Wall Street Journal’s quote about NX news was referring to how the platform will interact with mobile, rather than the system itself. We’re attaching the relevant excerpt below. Make of it what you will!
Analysts expect Miitomo, developed in partnership with mobile-game platform operator DeNA Inc., to contribute little to earnings. It will be free to download and built around communications features, meaning users won’t spend a lot for add-on items in a race for high scores.
Analysts have been watching for indications of how Nintendo’s mobile game will interact with a next-generation system that Nintendo has under development, code-named NX.
Mr. Kimishima said Tuesday that the company will provide an update “not too late in the course of this year.”
Analysts expect Nintendo NX to be unveiled in spring, with a possible release in October or November.
“Nintendo’s NX and smartphone games will be a test case for the videogame industry’s trend of trying to merge smart-device games and console-based games,” said Junko Yamamura, an analyst at Nomura Securities.
Nintendo didn’t have much at all to say about NX as part of the release of its financial results today. However, president Tatsumi Kimishima did share a slight tease regarding when we can expect to hear something concrete about the platform. Kimishima mentioned that the company will share an update “not too late in the course of this year.”
Many are counting on Nintendo to showcase NX at E3 in June. Given Kimishima’s statement though, maybe company may have something to say before then. Or maybe not. We shall see!

Kimishima: Next mobile app will feature a character “that fans are very familiar with”
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Mobile, News | 27 Comments
Update: Going to leave this here. The third mobile game may feature a top IP as well, according to Dr. Serkan Toto.
By the way, I heard the third app from Nintendo/DeNA in 2016 will also be a game featuring top IP. (These are separate from Pokemon GO.)
— Dr. Serkan Toto (@serkantoto) February 2, 2016
Thus far, we’ve only seen one mobile app from Nintendo. Miitomo, a title centered around communication, was unveiled last October with plans for release by March.
Miitomo isn’t the only mobile game Nintendo and DeNA are working on. As for what else we can expect? Nintendo president and CEO Tatsumi Kimishima teased today:
“The second game won’t be another communication app, and we plan to adopt one of our characters that fans are very familiar with.”
