Japan: Smash Bros. Ultimate sold over 300,000 digital copies in December

This week’s issue of Famitsu has a report on Japan’s best-selling games of December. We’ll publish the full chart soon (sometime after the magazine actually releases), but we do have an early tidbit. Famitsu reports that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sold 309,229 digital copies.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 is another game that debuted in December. According to Famitsu, the Switch version sold 33,506 digital copies.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hosting “Well-Rounded Spirits” Spirit Board event this week

Nintendo has announced the next Spirit Board event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Titled “Well-Rounded Spirits”, you’ll be more likely to encounter ones with a round shape.
The new Spirit Board event will last for three days. If you beat the included spirits, you can earn more SP.
Nintendo Switch Online adds Super Mario Bros. 2, Kirby’s Adventure this month as new NES games

Nintendo has revealed this month’s NES offerings for Switch Online. Two more games are joining the lineup in the west on February, including Super Mario Bros. 2 and Kirby’s Adventure.
In Japan, Nintendo will be throwing another game in the mix: Tsuppari Oozumou. This is the second month in a row that Japan has had an extra game. However, anyone who creates a Japanese account on their Switch system regardless of their region can play Tsuppari Oozumou.

D’Vorah revealed for Mortal Kombat 11

It didn’t take long for Mortal Kombat 11 to reveal its next character. Just shortly after the announcement of Kabal, we now know that D’Vorah will also be included.
Thus far we haven’t really seen much of D’Vorah in Mortal Kombat 11. When we have her character trailer, we’ll share it on the site.
Minecraft update out now (version 1.9.0)

Kabal revealed for Mortal Kombat 11

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm have pulled back the curtain on another character for Mortal Kombat 11. Kabal has joined the roster, and we have his trailer below. The character first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3.
Other playable characters in Mortal Kombat 11 include Baraka, Geras, Kano, Kabal, Raiden, Scorpion, Shao Kahn, Skarlet, Sonya Blade, and Sub-Zero.

Vivox releasing SDK to add text and voice chat to Switch games

The way that Switch works currently, Nintendo’s online architecture doesn’t properly support voice chat. That’s why we’ve seen something like Fortnite taking a different approach, which happens to use Vivox.
Vivox is taking its Switch plans a step further by announcing that it’s making a software development kid available to add text and voice chat to Switch games. Third-parties will be able to take advantage of the same functionality that Fortnite has been offering.

Guacamelee! One-Two Punch Collection revealed

Drinkbox Studios is teaming up with Leadman Games on a special package for Switch. The two sides today unveiled the Guacamelee! One-Two Punch Collection, a physical bundle of both games in the series. Also included is a manual, a double-sided poster, and download codes for the soundtracks.
Guacamelee! One-Two Punch Collection launches May 28 for $39.99. We have a video promoting the release below.
