Mighty No. 9 hit its final two stretch goals prior to the end of the game’s Kickstarter.

Earlier today, the campaign (including PayPal donations) hit $3.8 million, guaranteeing an 8-bit-style chiptune soundtrack for the final product. The optional soundtrack will feature classic sound effects as well. Players will be able to toggle it on or off in the settings menu.

With funds reaching $4 million, Mighty No. 9 will also incorporate an online battle race mode. You’ll be able to compete online with others through “slightly customized versions of single-player stages.”

Here’s the official lowdown:

The ultimate online competition! You and a friend compete online, racing to the end of slightly customized versions of single-player stages. You can see your rival as a “ghost” image in your game, but you can’t affect each other…save for the enemies you defeat being sent over to impede your opponent’s progress! It’s an all new twist on versus mode play that will give Mighty No. 9 life well beyond the single-player campaign!

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero and Hyper Light Drifter will feature crossovers between the two titles.

In Shantae, Kickstarter backers will receive a code for an exclusive Risky Boots quest featuring “Drifter”. This will be available to those who pledge $12 or more.

An overview of the quest published by WayForward reads:

“Risky Boots is searching high and low for the magical artifacts she needs to enter the Genie Realm and destroy the do-gooding Shantae once and for all. She soon crosses paths with a wandering stranger named “Drifter”. By fulfilling Drifter’s Quest, Risky Boots will gain the Drifter Blade, a brand new weapon with special properties designed in collaboration with Alexander Preston, creator of Hyper Light Drifter!”

Hyper Light Drifter will also feature its own collaboration. Heart Machine has teamed up with WayForward to include a Risky Boots bonus quest, which will be offered to backers who pledge $10 or more. Players will receive a special item – not yet announced – for completing the quest.

When Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was featured on a Nintendo Direct presentation, Eiji Aonuma shared a message on Miiverse about the game. Today, he’s done so once again.

Aonuma’s latest message mostly pertains to Ravio’s newly-revealed shop. You can find it in its entirety below.

GamesBeat has received confirmation from SEGA that the company has laid off an unspecified amount of employees.

A statement provided to the site reads:

“As the gaming industry continues to evolve, companies must adapt and adjust in order to compete and succeed in an ever-changing environment. As a result of this, Sega of America has recently undergone a restructure that will enable the company to focus efficiently on developing new and existing content across digital platforms as well as continuing to focus on key brands for packaged goods.”

It’s unclear just how many staffers were affected. However, GamesBeat’s says that the “number is small.”

Majora’s Mask has a cameo in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. It was spotted in today’s Nintendo Direct trailer – inside Ravio’s Shop. It’s a neat little Easter egg!

Thanks to Tim and Ben L for the tip.
