Nintendo Badge Arcade has been receiving daily updates since heading to the 3DS eShop. Because it’s continually updated with content, we’re rounding up all of the additions and changes in a weekly post.

Here’s what’s on tap for the week of May 1:

May 1

– 11 Animal Crossing panels
– 1 The Cat Mario panel (2 days left)
– 3 Tomodachi Life panels (1 day left)
– Thank-you badges until May 4
– Mario Kart theme offer until May 4
– 1 free play

Nintendo is encouraging players to use motion controls playing arms. You won’t be restricted in using other options, however. For months we’ve known that it will be full possible to play with traditional button controls. This month’s issue of EDGE explains how it’s done, at least with a single Joy-Con.

The magazine writes this month:

“Punches can be thrown using the triggers, or two of the face buttons – jump and dash are mapped on to the other two. You click the left stick to guard. Everything you need is here, and it works – but something’s missing. Since the left stick controls the angle of your punches, you can’t move in one direction and punch in the other. You can’t strike at a different angle with your other hand until the first punch is fully extended, either.”

EDGE does say that “ARMS isn’t quite the same” without motion controls. Still, the option is there if you’re not keen on moving around.

Note that EDGE’s information appears to be based on using a single Joy-Con. It’s unclear how the controls change with two Joy-Con or a Switch Pro Controller.

A new character trailer has come online for the upcoming Wii U title World to the West. Take a look at the video below for a closer look at Lumina.

In April, Epic Games Japan held a lecture titled “Switch & Unreal: Making Game Development More Unreal” at Unreal Fest West ’17. It was delivered by representative Takayuki Kawasaki and senior support engineer Noriaki Shinoyama. Nintendo’s Masaru Mitsuyoshi and Yusuke Fukushima were there as well.

The lecture began with the reasons as to why Unreal Engine hadn’t been formally supported on Nintendo platforms until recently from the viewpoints of both Epic and Nintendo. Epic’s Kawasaki started by saying that there was a mismatch in timing. Epic couldn’t negotiate directly with Nintendo until they established Epic Games Japan in 2009, and the Wii U was released just when Epic was ending support for Unreal Engine 3. Epic had always wanted to support Nintendo consoles, and that desire is finally realized with Switch. The company had been provided with development materials from Nintendo since it was still in development under the NX code name.

It has recently been announced that new Super Mario stamps will be sold in Japanese post offices at the end of June – specifically June 28. A variety of pictures were made featuring Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and even Toad.
You can see all of the different Mario stamps below.

Both Nintendo Dream and Dengeki Nintendo recently published Super Bomberman R interviews. The two magazines spoke with Noriaki Okamura, producer of the game.

Nintendo Dream and Dengeki started out by asking why Bomberman was brought to Switch. Okamura began by stating that the platform is very compatible with the series. Specifically regarding Switch, he likes it because it has a straightforward composition and it’s easy to make games for the system. Lately there are few consoles that come with two controllers by default, so Okamura felt that’s a good thing as well. Being able to play anytime, anywhere, and with anyone in your home with family, outside with friends, or online with others is an important aspect.

Update: We’ve received an announcement straight from Rainy Frog. Piczle Lines DX will be playable at Tokyo Indie Fest on May 14 in Akihabara, Tokyo. Also, news about the American and European release will follow later.

Interesting fact: Score Studios developed the engine and tools for The Last Guardian.

Original: Originally made available for mobile devices, puzzle game Piczle Lines DX is now jumping over to Switch. A new trailer issued today confirms an eShop version.

Rainy Frog is handling Piczle Lines DX in Japan, and potentially overseas as well. Score Studios originally developed for the project.

As for the actual game, Piczle Lines DX is all about connecting the right dots to form pictures. The mobile version is free-to-play, but the Switch edition should be paid.

You’ll get access to over 300 levels once purchased, with even more to come for free. Today’s trailer also shows support for the touchscreen in addition to the Joy-Con.
