Yesterday, several patents relating to Nintendo’s planned Quality of Life platform were published. As was previously announced, they mostly seem to center around monitoring the user’s health via non-wearable devices. Of course, as is the case with all patents, it seems unlikely that all of these will appear in exactly these forms in the final product(s), but it’s nonetheless an interesting look at what Nintendo has plannend.

qol patent

This information processing system comprises a portable terminal. The portable terminal detects sensor information for assessing a user’s emotions. It would be permissible, as an example, for the sensor information to be sound information which is detected by a microphone, or image information which is captured by a camera. The information processing system assesses the user’s emotions on the basis of the sensor information. The portable terminal detects the sensor information in a period when the said portable terminal is in a standby state. As an example, the said standby state is a state wherein a display of the portable terminal is off.

qol patent 2

This display system is provided with a sensor, a projector, and a control means. The sensor detects user information for calculating a state relating to sleep of a user. The user information is, for instance, biological information, such as pulse rate. The projector displays, by means of projection, a predetermined image. For instance, the projector displays, by means of projection, an image on a ceiling by projecting the image upward. The control means controls the projector corresponding to the sleep-related state calculated on the basis of the user information.

qol patent 3

A terminal system acquires physiological information from a user and transmits transmission information to a server system, said transmission information including the physiological information and/or health information relating to the health or the body of the user, obtained from said physiological information. The server system associates the transmission information received from each terminal system, and/or information obtained from said transmission information, with the user, and stores these as stored information. The server system also stores conditions relating to the generation of provided information, to be provided to the user in order to improve metrics obtained from the stored information, or metrics included in the stored information. The provided information is generated on the basis of the stored information and the conditions, and is transmitted to the user’s terminal. The server system performs an analysis of transmission information acquired after the provided information has been provided, for a plurality of users that have received the provided information, and updates the conditions on the basis of the analysis results.

Bandai Namco just released the second trailer for Super Robot Wars BX. Check it out below:

Super Robot Wars BX will be out in Japan on August 20th.

Eurogamer recently had the chance to sit down with Tsubasa Sakaguchi, one Splatoon’s directors. I’ve summarized some key statements from Sakaguchi below, but if you wanna read the whole interview, check it out here.

– “Splatoon, of course, has many elements of a shooter, but it didn’t start off with us wanting to make a shooter game. It was more that we found fun in colouring in vast areas and spaces around us, and as part of that visualisation of the movement of the characters we found really exciting, and this is how the project started.”

– “Humans can move our hands less when we’re moving them downwards, and more when we move it upwards. When we were doing the mapping for the gyro sensor, we incorporated these subtle human movements into the game. It might not be apparent at first glance, but maybe you might notice it in the future.”

– “We were slightly concerned about whether users might feel the gyro controls were a little bit difficult. But I like to use the analogy of riding a bicycle. You need a lot of practice, but once you’ve learnt that the bicycle becomes one with your body and it opens the whole world to you. In that sense, we’re really happy that many users have learnt to ride the bicycle!”

– “About 70-80 per cent of players are using the gyro controls. That’s not to say we’re forcing it on to them. From our point of view, we think that the gyro controls are the best way to play Splatoon, the reason being there are two main movements you need for a shooter. One is moving the body, the other is aiming where you’re shooting. In that sense, we think for Splatoon the gyro gives that subtle movement and more precise actions to be able to really experience the game in a much better way.”

– “When we were designing Splatoon, reaching level 20 was going to take quite a lot of time. Learning the game mechanics with the gyro sensor – we thought that would take a lot of time. In that sense we’re surprised that people have reached the level cap in such a short time. We’re actually really worried about those people – worried that they’re still sleeping and eating! We recognise that a lot of people have reached level 20, and that there’s not much left to do in the game. There’s not much I can announce today, but I hope you can look forward to some future announcements.”

– “At the moment, we’re not planning any paid download content. Beyond August, there’ll be new stages and new weapons slowly being released.”

SEGA has released some screenshots and art from 7th Dragon III Code: VFD. A few of the images we’ve seen before, but they should be in higher quality this time around. Take a look at today’s full set below.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth came out on both the Wii U and 3DS eShops in North America today. On Wii U, the game’s download weighs in at nearly 400 MB.

We should also mention that a patch is already on the way for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth on New 3DS. This will address a particular bug in the game.
