Summer Game Fest 2023 live stream

The main event for Summer Game Fest 2023 is almost here, and with the event about to begin, we’re sharing the official live stream. It will begin at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET / 8 PM in the UK / 9 PM in Europe.

Announcements and other updates for games across all platforms and publishers will be shared. While it seems Nintendo itself won’t be participating, there should be a decent amount for Switch owners here. We know that at the very least, first gameplay from Mortal Kombat 1 will be shown. We’ll be sure to pass along anything else notable on the Switch front on the main site as soon as possible.

Here’s where you can watch the Summer Game Fest 2023 live stream:

Fire Emblem Engage DLC characters

The developers of Fire Emblem Engage have briefly discusses how the game’s DLC characters were decided, which added new Emblems to the game.

Fire Emblem Engage kicked off its Expansion Pass with Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude from Fire Emblem: Three Houses plus Tiki from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light. Wave 2 added Hector (Emblem of Strength) Soren (Emblem of Acumen), and Camilla (Emblem of Revelation). Chrom and Robin (Emblem of Bonds) and Veronica (Emblem of Heroes) were in the third wave.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was nothing short of a masterpiece when it came out in 2017, but six years have passed since then and some of the game’s more unpleasant aspects have become more apparent over time.

In our new video, Sam dives into its new sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We examine how it improves on some of its predecessor’s most controversial aspects.

Here’s the full video:

According to Live A Live director Takashi Tokita, the RPG almost received a sequel during the DS era.

Tokita shared that information in a recent interview with Famitsu. He said that while there were plans for a new game, “it was hard to display the passion of Live A Live fans to the company, and so we ended up in an impasse.”

Switch owners are currently left in the dark when it comes to what’s next from Nintendo. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just launched and that’s an absolutely massive title that can carry the company for a bit, but there should be more games coming this year. After Pikmin 4 in July, Nintendo isn’t just going to stop there. DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and other titles will help pad out the schedule, but it remains to be seen what Nintendo has cooking as far as brand new games go.

Something like a Nintendo Direct could quickly and easily give fans a better idea as to what’s planned. However, whereas in the past you could always count on a presentation airing in June alongside E3, that’s not a certainty anymore – especially since the expo has been cancelled for 2023. Having said that, Nintendo can put out a Direct whenever it feels it’s the best opportunity to do so, and randomly announcing new games on social media isn’t out of the question either.

With that out of the way, what do you think we’ll see from Nintendo for the rest of 2023? Do you think Metroid Prime 4 could make it out this year? What do you personally hope to see? Let us know in the comments.

Fire Emblem Engage Three Houses

The developers of Fire Emblem Engage have opened up about the creating of the game, including how the team wanted to make something different than Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Co-producers Genki Yokota and Masahiro Higuchi as well as co-directors Kenta Nakanishi and Tsutomu Tei spoke about this in a recent Nintendo Dream interview.

Switch Sports UI UX

Nintendo Switch Sports developer Toshiki Otani recently posted an interesting blog about what it was like handling the UI and UX elements of the game. We also have a look at what seems to be different boxart (above) and logo designs (below) that were considered.

UI and UX elements are often overlooked when it comes to creating titles, and it’s especially important for Switch Sports given how it’s intended for people of all ages. Otani brought up aspects such as making the controls immediately easy to understand, cutting down on explanations, and more.

How Bayonetta Origins came to be

In a recent interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu, the team behind Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon shared insight into how the game came to be.

When the title was unveiled at The Game Awards last December, it was a surprise to many. It not only features a different look for the franchise, but a unique style of gameplay as well. Something that was also a surprise was how it was planned to launch just a few months after Bayonetta 3.

Players start the game in a similar area to Breath of the Wild’s Great Plateau, and right away, there are things to collect. In our video walkthrough, we take you through all Korok Seed locations on the Great Sky Island in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. There are a surprising amount of secrets tucked away in this short opening area. These seeds will help expand your inventory for shields, weapons, and bows by turning them in to Hestu – similar to the previous title – throughout your journey.
