The situation surrounding Anima: Gate of Memories on Wii U has been a weird one. During the project’s early days, an eShop release was pretty much set in stone. Publisher BadLand Indie ended up claiming last July that a Wii U version is no longer in the cards, which then prompted the game’s developer to say otherwise.

Now things have taken a turn for the worse once again. Here’s an excerpt from Anima’s latest Kickstarter update:

“Anima Gate of Memories will be released simultaneously in Windows, Xbox One and PS4 and we are working to be able to release a few months later a WiiU version (which, even if we are still not sure, we hope that will be possible). Right now we are trying to discover if we can provide a console key. Give us a few more weeks to see if it can be done.”

The Wii U version hasn’t been cancelled outright, but there might be a reason to be concerned. We’ll keep you informed as we hear more about the situation.

Mutant Mudds Super Challenge, the upcoming 3DS/Wii U eShop game from Renegade Kid, is having its final version submitted to Nintendo. If approved, the game should find its way onto the eShop soon, in Renegade Kid’s projected time of early 2016.

Release date: February 4, 2016

The 3D platforming and collectathon style of game is one that hasn’t been very prevalent since the days of the Nintendo 64. However, fans of old-school 3D platformers have wanted to see a revival of these experiences and its seems as though their cries are now being heard by the many studios out there. One indie developer named Rainy Night Creations strove to create a game that followed in the footsteps of the giants that were Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie in an attempt to bring its new title, FreezeME, into the genre. However, unlike the platformer’s clear inspirations, FreezeME has some seriously glaring issues at its core.

Word Puzzles by POWGI hit the European eShops last week. In North America, the game will be available on Wii U and 3DS this coming week: February 11. It’s cross-buy, so if you purchase one version, you’re entitled to the other one for free.

Buddy & Me, a 2D platformer featuring Metroid Prime developer Jason Behr as creative director, started out as a Kickstarter project back in 2013. It launched on mobile platforms a little bit later, and has been ported to a number of mobile platforms over the past couple of years.

Buddy & Me now appears to be setting its sights on Wii U. On Kickstarter, the team teased the following:

“So what’s next?

With all the effort put into transitioning into Unity, we’re anxious to take advantage of Unity’s cross-platform support. While we don’t quite have the budget to retroactively update all our old platforms’ builds, we do still want to do something very special. In next week’s update, I’ll share about what we’re working on now, plus some hints about other future project ideas.

I hate to tease, but, I wonder what’s in the box Buddy got for the holidays? Hint: Wii haven’t forgotten our promises.”

For Buddy & Me’s Kickstarter, a Wii U version was actually a stretch goal. It fell around $13,000 shy of that target, though it now seems as though an eShop release could be happening.

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge originally landed on DSiWare back in 2010. It’s been on several platforms since then, and WayForward is now gearing up to bring it to the Wii U eShop.

The studio wrote in a Kickstarter update for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero today:

“Breaking news today for Shantae fans! Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut is moving into submissions at Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe. Now Wii U owners will be able to play the most popular Shantae game on the planet, with all of those fancy bonus features like the new Warp System, improved balancing, HD illustrations, and the infamous Magic Mode Costume!”

In other news, here’s a look at Tuki, an enemy in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero designed by a fan:

“This is it! The final Backer Enemy to appear in Half-Genie Hero! Say hello to Tuki, the sneaky, snakey seller of magical secrets by Backer Matt B! Matt B worked with our Matt B on several designs, and eventually landed on this devious shop keeper rather than a traditional combat enemy. Tuki will appear at various points throughout the game to offer the player new dances in exchange for old ones. What could go wrong? Traditional enemy? – No. Interesting choice? Abso-slither-lutely!””

Image & Form has prepared a new episode for its series known as “The Engine Room” – watch it below.

This time around, the studio tackles the topic of amiibo. To put it simply, Image & Form is interested in making a SteamWorld amiibo happen, but there would be a lot of work involved. They do want to continue to see fans support the idea, and they encourage everyone to share their own ideas for what the figure would look like and how it would function.
