Metroid Dread demo released on the Switch eShop
Posted on 3 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 0 comments
Though it’s been out for a couple of weeks, Nintendo has just launched a demo for Metroid Dread on the Switch eShop that lets users experience the beginning parts of the game. It can be downloaded directly through the store page or on the company’s website here.
Nintendo does have a habit of offering demos for a number of its Switch titles. Typically, however, they’re made available prior to launch. Nintendo didn’t go into any further detail, but says that the Metroid Dread demo is “an early Halloween treat” for fans. If you’ve yet to pick up the game but have some interest, you don’t have much to lose by giving it a shot.

Is Metroid Dread better than Super Metroid?
Posted on 3 years ago by Luiz in Features, Switch, Videos | 0 comments
It’s been more than two weeks since the launch of Metroid Dread, and while the hype has settled down a little, I imagine that now’s a good time to analyze the game in a more grounded perspective. I decided to put Dread to the ultimate test: is it better than Super Metroid? It made sense to think about them in this way since Super Metroid is still the most acclaimed entry in the series and it is often used as a reference for a good Metroid game.
In today’s video, I discuss how both Metroid Dread and Super Metroid are products of their time, with each one hitting the right spots in different moments. Watch until the end to see my personal conclusion and share yours in the comments.

[Let’s Talk] Metroid Dread impressions
Posted on 3 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Let's Talk, Switch | 0 comments
It’s crazy to think about, but after nearly two decades, we’ve finally seen a brand new, original 2D Metroid. After skipping several of its other systems, Nintendo finally felt the time was right to create Metroid Dread for Switch.
It’s been about a week since Metroid Dread came out. Given that it’s not a massively long experience, we imagine that many of you have already completed the game or are at least pretty far along.
For those that have been playing through Metroid Dread, what are your thoughts on the game? Did it live up to your expectations? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

[Review] Metroid Dread
Posted on 3 years ago by Amit Dhindsa(@Agnezenn) in Reviews, Switch | 0 comments
Note: we’ve updated this post with a video version of our Metroid Dread review – check it out below.
System: Switch
Release date: October 8, 2021
Developer: MercurySteam / Nintendo
Publisher: Nintendo
Metroid Dread still feels a little surreal. The shock of a new, original 2D Metroid was palpable when Dread was announced, but the more one thinks about it, the more amazing it seems. It’s the realization of a 15 year old concept that has gone through multiple cycles of early development and dormancy. It’s the first original 2D Metroid in almost two decades, a span of time in which an entire genre named after the series has sprung up and seen thousands of games following in its footsteps. It’s a game that has expectations to live up to that seem almost unfair but somehow manages to exceed them. Metroid Dread is real, and it’s a masterpiece.

Metroid Dread producer on why Samus doesn’t speak much in the game
Posted on 3 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 0 comments
Those that have played Metroid Dread are aware that Samus doesn’t speak much in the game. This is actually fairly in line with the series as a whole, though we did get to hear more from her in Other M and through her inner thoughts in Fusion.
Yoshio Sakamoto, the producer of Metroid Dread, spoke about the decision to keep Samus relatively mute in a recent interview with GameSpot. He explained that limiting Samus’ words ties back to the game’s primary theme – that being dread of course. The team decided to focus on “acting or visuals” rather than words and voice.
Sakamoto’s full words on having Samus not speak much in Metroid Dread are below:

Metroid Dread devs from MercurySteam speak out after not being included in credits
Posted on 3 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 0 comments
Some of the staff at MercurySteam are speaking out about the company’s handling of credits, and specifically how it relates to Metroid Dread.
According to Spanish site Vandal (via Neat), the studio has confirmed a policy in which developers who worked for less than 25% of the game’s total development time are not included in the credits. The company is said to make exceptions for “exceptional contributions”, though the specifics surrounding this are unclear. MecurySteam employees say that Metroid Dread was in the works for four years, meaning staff would need to have been involved for at least twelve months to be credited.

Metroid Dread has series’ biggest launch in UK chart history
Posted on 3 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 0 comments
Although specific sales figures haven’t been provided just yet, Metroid Dread is off to a strong start in the UK. We’re hearing that it’s now the biggest launch for the series in the region ever. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Wii previously held that milestone. Furthermore, this is without factoring in digital downloads of Metroid Dread.
Metroid Dread is indeed doing well, but a few other Switch titles have outperformed it this year. It follows behind Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Monster Hunter Rise, and New Pokemon Snap.
