Sonic next game future

Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto has been answering more fan questions on Twitter, and has shared some interesting insight into the future of the series. Tails Channel was kind enough to round up some of the more important tidbits.

It sounds like work on the next major Sonic game has started. There are some things SEGA is keeping in mind for the future such as more playable characters, a better story, avoiding repetition of previous Sonic levels, and expanded combat.

Here’s the full roundup:

E3 2023 ESA statement

ESA has shared a statement regarding E3 2023 in light of yesterday’s report that Nintendo will not be attending the event – along with PlayStation and Xbox.

The organization declined to comment on which companies will be appearing. However, the ESA did say that it has “made strong progress in reshaping the event” while also acknowledging that a proper revival “was always going to have its challenges” given how the coronavirus pandemic heavily impacted things over the past three years.

SpongeBob SquarePants Cosmic Shake review

System: Switch
Release date: January 31, 2023
Developer: Purple Lamp
Publisher: THQ Nordic

Of all the platforming juggernauts that come to mind when I recall the early 2000s, SpongeBob SquarePants is not among them. In 2020, THQ released a remake of Battle for Bikini Bottom – a 2003 game in every sense of the word. After selling over two million copies, it landed us with an all new spiritual sequel to that game in the form of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. The main hurdle this sequel has to overcome is being unshackled from the weapons-grade nostalgia that propelled its predecessor to success. To be fair to The Cosmic Shake, this is a difficult act to follow. How exactly do you craft a follow-up to a remake of a twenty year old game? Developer Purple Lamp has two decades of platformers to draw inspiration from, and the one it chooses to wear on its sleeve is unfortunately the remake that preceded it.

E3 2023 Nintendo

Nintendo has always been a big part of E3, but rumor has it that the Big N will be skipping this year’s trade show. That’s according to IGN, who “has heard from multiple knowledgeable sources that Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo won’t be part of E3 2023 or have presence on the Los Angeles Convention Center showfloor.”

E3 has not been the powerhouse that it was since the coronvirus pandemic started in 2020. After attempting an online-only version in 2021, the show was scrapped entirely for 2022. Now E3 is looking to make a big return for 2023, but if none of the console manufactures are there, that would certainly hurt.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line demo

Square Enix is gearing up for a new demo of Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, the company just announced. It will be available on February 1, 2023.

30 songs and characters will be available. All characters can also go up to level 30 (you can probably notice a theme here). Progress will transfer to the full game.

Cat Mario Super Mario Bros Movie

Another clip has come online for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and it includes a first look at Cat Mario plus Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong.

The scene in question stems from the second trailer in which Mario and Donkey Kong are battling it out. Originally, we saw that Mario was getting the beatdown. However, in today’s clip, it turns out that he turns the tide with a power-up. After hitting the Question Block, Mario takes on his Cat Mario form.

Klonoa origins

Klonoa series director Tsuyoshi Kobayashi has provided new insight into how the franchise came to be. Kobayashi spoke about this in a recent issue of Lost In Cult.

Interestingly, Bandai Namco was originally working on a game that would have been based on a different IP. However, after that didn’t work out, they had to replace the characters. That led the team to hold an internal competition to create a new character that would eventually become Klonoa.

SpongeBob SquarePants The Cosmic Shake interview Purple Lamp

Nintendo Everything recently had a chance to speak with Andreas “AJ” Jarzabek, a project manager at Purple Lamp, about SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. This title follows a remake of Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, a remake of the 2003 3D platformer.

We discussed a range of topics with Jarzabek, including the origins of Cosmic Shake, different gameplay aspects, the Switch version, and more. You can delve into our full interview below.

Something finally happened this week that many had for a long time thought would be impossible: a release of GoldenEye 007. If you’re a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscriber, you can play it right now. For some, this will be their first time reexperiencing the game since its release over two decades ago. GoldenEye 007 on Switch is largely the same as it was back in the day, but you can now at least play it online thanks to the built in functionality of the N64 app.

If you’re one of those people that played GoldenEye 007 when it first came out and have now started it up on Switch, how do you feel it holds up? Is it as good as you remember? And for new players, what are your thoughts on the game that has often been labeled as a true classic? Let us know in the comments.
