Masahiro Sakurai

Earlier this week, some comments made the rounds from Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai’s latest Famitsu column. Some took his words to mean that he could be retiring soon, but that’s not actually the case.

It’s true that retirement is a topic that has at least crossed Sakurai’s mind. That being said, he won’t be leaving game development in the near future.

IGN translated a few of Sakurai’s comments from the column. He started out by reflecting on a recent holiday in Japan – which is his personal first in a decade:

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

A sequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is apparently in development. That’s according to an official financial document from Digital Bros., the parent company of publisher 505 Games.

The document mentions that a “second version” is in the works. Digital Bros. has used that exact term to refer to other games that have a planned sequel.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate

SEGA has put out an official announcement for the just-announced Sonic Colors: Ultimate. We have confirmation on pricing, a new Rival Rush mode, and more.

Following today’s Sonic Central presentation, SEGA has issued a press release recapping all of the major news. There were a number of announcements during the show, including Sonic Colors Ultimate, Sonic Origins, and a new project from Sonic Team.

Sonic Origins

SEGA has announced Sonic Origins, a new compilation of classic titles. It will launch in 2022.

Sonic Origins will feature Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD.

Sonic Origins is set for release on the “latest platforms.”

SEGA’s official Sonic Central live stream will be kicking off not too long from now. The broadcast begins at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM in the UK / 6 PM in Europe. As previously mentioned, it will cover “a first look at some of the projects, partnerships, and events” for Sonic’s 30th anniversary.

April was another strong month for Switch in the United States. Based on the latest data from NPD, it was the best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars. That also goes for 2021 as a whole so far.

New Pokemon Snap, a new release for the month, debuted at #3 on the software charts – despite coming out at the very end of April. The full top twenty can be found here.
