In this portion of the interview, Miyamoto discusses how the “Mario” brand needs a person who can call the shots on the criteria for what is and isn’t “Mario-esque”, so that’s what he does. He also ensures that he oversees any game that has Mario in it to some degree.

In our excerpts below, Miyamoto talks about what exactly he’s involved in during the development process, how he works with his staff compared to the past, and his infamous action of “upending the tea table” mid-development.

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo has just issued the latest firmware update for Switch. All system owners can get their hands on version 9.2.0.

According to Nintendo, the update includes “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.” No other elements are included.

Before today’s update, version 9.1.0 launched in December. That also included general stability improvements, and it also addressed an issue in which the color animation was not displaying correctly when attaching a Joy-Con controller to the console.

Update: New Mario Kart Tour multiplayer details added below.

Multiplayer is finally coming to Mario Kart Tour on March 8, Nintendo has announced. The feature goes live at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET.

A beta test for multiplayer was previously held in December. However, it was only open to Gold Pass subscribers.

With the multiplayer feature, you can compete against seven other players, whether they’re in-game friends, nearby, or around the world.

Nintendo Switch

As it’s now March 3 in Japan, Switch is officially three years old. The console launched around the world on March 3, 2017.

Switch has been an extremely successful console for Nintendo so far, especially following the Wii U – which many would agree was a disappointment. The system has already sold over 50 million units worldwide, surpassing the Wii U, GameCube, N64, and SNES. It’s just a matter of time until other platforms like the NES are overtaken as well.
