It’s been well-documented just how important Fire Emblem Awakening was to the series. If that game hadn’t been successful, the franchise could have been in jeopardy. Thankfully, all went well, and Fire Emblem Awakening even achieved huge popularity in the west.

In an interview with VG247, Fire Emblem: Three Houses director at Intelligent Systems Toshiyuki Kusakihara was asked about what made Awakening so successful. Funnily enough, he’s completely unsure. Kusakihara said that the team “didn’t make any change to our philosophy to make Awakening be liked outside of Japan” and doesn’t know “why it’s so popular.”

During Nintendo’s 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, one investor brought up how E3 featured the same sort of things we’ve been seeing from games over the past three decades in the sense that players look at the screen and play with a controller in their hand. This person wanted to know how developers feel about this and whether or not it will continue. That led to some very interesting comments from Nintendo.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, Shinya Takahashi, and Ko Shiota all commented here. Takahashi mentioned how Nintendo is always looking to innovate and pointed to 1-2 Switch and Labo VR. Miyamoto would add that Nintendo was the first to create the d-pad and additional buttons, as well as the analog stick which “is the clear winner.”

Story of Seasons: Reunion in Mineral Town, a remake of the Game Boy Advance games Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town, has been confirmed for western release. Marvelous says that this will happening sometime after the Japanese and Asia launch. These two regions are getting the game on October 17.

If Marvelous / XSEED Games handles the overseas launch (which currently seems to be the case), the Story of Seasons name should carry over. Marvelous owns the Bokujo Monogatari / Story of Seasons games while Natsume has rights to the Harvest Moon name.
