If you’ve already had the pleasure of experiencing Wolfenstein: The New Colossus on Switch then you’re familiar with how the series has managed to distill the FPS formula down to perfection. In an era dominated by damp fetch quests and morally ambiguous “makes you think” villains, both MachineGames’ Wolfenstein and id Software’s Doom reboot have felt like a breath of fresh air for those of us who get misty-eyed over 90’s shooters. For the uninitiated, here’s a brief rundown: Entrench your mind in a Tetris-like zen state, and skittishly zip around maps that are designed less like real places and more like skateparks. You have two goals: Use gun and give death. Despite the immense praise both Wolfenstein and Doom have garnered over the course of this console generation, there may be a feeling over at Bethesda that change is now needed to differentiate these two franchises going forward, and this is exactly the impression I get from playing Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

LEGO Jurassic World is being ported to Switch, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive and developer TT Games announced today. A release is planned for September 17 in North America and September 20 in Europe.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

The latest Japanese hardware sales from Famitsu are as follows:

Switch continues to sell, but as far as EA support goes, we haven’t seen a whole lot. So far, the FIFA series has ended up along on the platform along with Fe from Zoink and a port of Unravel Two. During a financial call this week, EA commented on its thinking behind Switch support.

According to CEO Andrew Wilson, EA’s internal data indicates “a great many Switch owners also own a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One or a PC and very often choose to play the games that we make on those platforms even though they have a Switch and they enjoy a lot of great content on the Switch.”

Update (7/31): Splatoon 2 version 5.0.0 is live worldwide. In case you missed it, you can find the patch notes below.

Original (7/30): Nintendo has issued the patch notes for Splatoon 2 version 5.0.0, which goes live around the world tomorrow, July 31. It will include the “Turf War (Splatfest)” mode in Private Battle, adjustments for Shellendorf Institute and New Albacore Hotel, a whole lot of weapon changes, and more.

Below are the full patch notes:

One of the most well-known aspects about the Fire Emblem series is the usage of the weapon triangle. The main idea behind the gameplay feature is that a group of weapons may have advantages against one type, but is weak against another. Although the weapon triangle was present in quite a number of Fire Emblem games, it doesn’t appear in Three Houses.

Director Toshiyuki Kusakihara commented on its removal in an interview with GameSpot. Speaking with the site, Kusakihara explained why the team decided against using it in this particular game, stating:

Marvelous has gone live with a new Satelight-made “Order Zero” prologue animation for its Switch exclusive Daemon X Machina. In it, we’re able to get a look at what transpired before the start of the actual game.

Here’s the video:

Those who pre-load Daemon X Machina can receive the Prototype Arsenal and Prototype Plugsuit, which were featured in the Order Zero animation.

The much anticipated 4.0.0 update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now live. Aside from the addition of Hero DLC, today’s patch includes some additional features, and of course, plenty of balance adjustments.
