Splatoon 2 - Sanrio collaboration

In North America and Europe, a tournament-style Splatfest has been taking place featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Something similar has now been announced for Japan featuring Sanrio characters.

Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll will be up first, with My Melody vs. Pompompurin following next. The winners from both matches will go on to the final round. Splatfests will start on May 19 leading up through June 10.

T-shirts based on the Splatfests will be available on the My Nintendo store in Japan. Pre-orders are already up here (folks in the west are out of luck unfortunately).

Blade Strangers - Quote

Nicalis has revealed another new character for the Switch fighter Blade Strangers. After announcing Gunvolt from the Azure Striker Gunvolt series yesterday, the company has now confirmed that Quote from Cave Story+ will be appearing.

Here’s a brief look:

Part of the paid Nintendo Switch Online service is a selection of NES games with added online functionality. 20 of those will be available at launch, with more to be added later. Being able to play classic games (albeit not online) has previously been done on Nintendo systems with the Virtual Console service, with the difference that games had to be purchased individually. For a while now, it has seemed increasingly likely that a Virtual Console like on Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS would not be coming to the Nintendo Switch – and this has now been confirmed.

Kotaku inquired about a possible Virtual Console on Switch, and received the following answer from a Nintendo spokesperson via e-mail:

Along with today’s new information shared about Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo has posted an official FAQ for the service. Among other things, it confirms that you’ll be able to create a Nintendo Account Family Group starting May 15.

Here’s the full FAQ:

When Nintendo Switch Online arrives in September, it’ll bring about classic games. Nintendo today revealed the initial round of NES titles will be offered. In total, there will be 20 games at launch.
