Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata had to take a leave of absence this summer due to a medical condition. In a medical checkup earlier this year, it was discovered that he had a tumor on his bile duct.

During his absence Iwata had the tumor removed and has now recovered well enough to resume his regular work duties.

In his first press appearance since his leave he commented to reporters – while giving the latest Nintendo financial results – Iwata said that he has lost weight but feels healthier.

GameSource recently had the opportunity to interview David D’Angelo from Yacht Club Games. The discussion isn’t in English, but we were presented with a couple of noteworthy translations.

Here’s what D’Angelo shared regarding Nintendo’s support for Shovel Knight:

Nintendo was very helpful. They provided a great deal of marketing from featuring the game on the eShop and their website, to bringing the game with them to conventions around the country. They were also helpful behind the scenes, dealing with technical questions and listening to our wildest dreams. Creating Shovel Knight for the Wii U and 3DS was a smooth process, but of course, still a ton of work. Building a game for any platform comes with its own challenges and making a game feel unique and at home on the console is an important but hard problem to tackle!

On the topic of Shovel Knight’s sales, D’Angelo stated:

The game is selling really well on Nintendo platforms, and hopefully we’ll continue to keep making games for their systems. We love Nintendo, and they have been really great to work with for Shovel Knight.

Shigeru Miyamoto attended the Tokyo International Film Festival this past weekend to debut his new Pikmin shorts. At the event, Reuters caught up with Miyamoto to discuss a number of topics.

Here’s a quick overview as to what was shared:

– Miyamoto had balked for years at requests to make films with Nintendo characters
– He warmed to the possibilities of filmmaking given technological advances

Miyamoto noting that he has no plans to shift from games to the movie business….

“I haven’t moved over. But as computer graphics have gotten better, I started to feel that it’s something that I could get involved with. Making films in the past was something that was made with a completely different skill set but now I feel that it’s rather similar.”
