In October, a special Super Mario Bros. screen painting will go on display in Kyoto. It comes in celebration of the series’ 30th anniversary, as well as the 400th anniversary of the Rimpa school.

Mario is represented as “Raijin” (Japanese god of thunder and storms) in the piece while Luigi is shown as “Fujin” (Japanese god of wind). These two tend to be paired in Japanese art, much like Nintendo’s famous brothers.

The painting itself is created in Rimpa style. For a look at its creation, check out the official Nintendo video below.

Listings on the eShop confirm reveal two more digital Wii U releases for this week. Along with the previously-confirmed Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut, The Swindle, and Funky Physics, we’ll also be seeing Star Sky and Explody Bomb.

Star Sky is a game we covered recently, and we know that it’s due out in Europe on Thursday as well. In Alkterios Games’ Explody Bomb, “you must shoot down all enemies that attempt to attack” by using the GamePad to guide a bomb between obstacles. Pricing is set at $4 and $1.99 respectively.

SEGA

Later this month, SEGA will be wrapping up its next batch of 3D Classics. 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will officially conclude the second series. However, there is a possibility that more games could be coming, or were at least considered at one point.

Found within the RAM of 3D Gunstar Heroes are titles such as Sonic Spinball, Comix Zone, and Puyo Puyo 2. It remains to be seen though what sort of plans there are for the future – if any.

Last month, a listing was spotted on Toys “R” Us for a physical version of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Director’s Cut. The game had been on track for September 8 (yes, tomorrow!), but it seems as though a delay has entered the picture. Toys “R” Us now lists Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Director’s Cut for October 9.

Nintendo Direct was an initiative created by Satoru Iwata. But with his passing back in July, some have wondered if this is something that will continue going forward.

There is at least one piece of news which gives hope for the future. A Nintendo of America job listing for a motion graphics artist mentions that this person will be responsible for editing video/audio for Nintendo Directs, among other content. That’s not a definitive answer regarding the status of the presentations, but it’s encouraging!

Here’s the job listing in full for those that are interested:
