Nintendo announced a new entry in the Star Fox series during E3 2015 last year. But since the game was in such early development, only a few select members of the press were given an opportunity to see it for the first time.

During its Digital Event, Nintendo made sure to host a proper blowout of the new Star Fox game for Wii U. The game is coming this holiday.

Nintendo’s Digital Event will begin at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT / 5 PM in the UK / 6 PM in Europe (1 hour from now). You can watch the live stream as it happens below.

Jon will be handling the live blog portion of our coverage, so all updates will follow below once the event begins. I’ll also be adding new posts to the site as announcements are made. Expect TONS of additional coverage of Nintendo’s E3 2015 presence throughout the day as well as the entire week.

Since we have a little while to go, feel free to use this post as a chat thread of sorts. Share with us your last minute predictions! And enjoy everything Nintendo has to offer this week.

*Note: the Nintendo Digital Event should be 51 minutes long.

Star Fox Zero (Wii U)

• Gamepad footage shown – inside cockpit
• Arwings transform – Ground form shown with 2 legs
• Tanks, hovercrafts, other vehicles shown. All with varying use on the gamepad
• Gyro controls confirmed as an option
  • Talks about varied control schemes thanks to the gamepad and 2 sticks
• Walker was originally from Star Fox 2 but the game never made it out
• Landmaster returns
• Gyrowing can send a recon unit which is viewable from the gamepad

Skylanders: Super Charger

• Turbo Charged Donkey Kong + Barrel Blaster vehicle announced
• Hammer Slam Bowser + Crown Cruiser vehicle as well
• Upgrade trees for both characters that are expected and un-expected
  • Example given is Magma Bowser
• Double up as amiibo

Mario Maker

• 8-bit Link shown

• Can combine elements from different games – stacking different enemies on top of each other / in different places (Bowser underwater)
• Mystery mushrooms allow Mario to take the form of other amiibo

• Miyamoto spoke about his own level design process
  • Starts with levels he wants to make and works backwards

The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes

• 3 player 3DS game
• A Link Between Worlds art style
• 4-swords inspired
• Outfit Link with new clothing – Samurai + Jester outfits shown
• Focus on multiplayer and co-op – Previously was competitive, get more rupees etc. but the focus this game is co-operative elements
• Totem Mechanic is the ability for Links to carry each other on their shoulders and reach higher places
• 4 players was too tall so they settled on 3
• For single player there are supporting doll characters, can switch like in 4 swords
• Set in a fashion savvy city and each player claims to be the hero… and so it begins
• Online play confirmed

Hyrule Warriors: All stars

• All previous information re-iterated
• Red King has attacks in his boat form
• Switch between characters by tapping the bottom screen
• 1st Quarter 2016

Metroid Prime Federation Force (3DS) announced

Shin Megami x FE

• Set in modern day world

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer

• A number of different buildings shown, including a school

Animal Crossing Wii U

• Board game of some description
• K.K. Slider, Tom Nook Isabelle, Mabel amiibo shown
• Competitive board game set in the animal crossing universe, collect currencies like bells and progress through island + town theme maps with events involving animal crossing staples
• Slated for Holiday 2015

Yoshi’s Woolly World

• More gameplay footage shown
• variable difficulty curve depending on how much the player wants to get out of a stage
• Multiplayer is both co-operative but also elements to disrupt your friend, such as being able to turn them into an egg
• Different Yoshi models can be unlocked with amiibo – Mario and Samus designs shown
• October 16 2015 release date

Yo-kai Watch

• Find yo-kai with the yo-kai lens, befriend them and use them in battle
• touch screen battle elements shown, spinning a wheel to access commands and do attacks
• Slated for holiday 2015

Mario & Luigi Paper Jam

• The world of Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi cross
• Both art styles shown
• Looks like 4 playable characters like Partners in Time for the DS
• A lot more than traditional RPG elements shown, Papercraft Mario demoed which was essentially a tank

[Iwata] Originally, the Media Briefings (press conferences) were attended not only by reporters but also by security analysts, distributors and game industry staff—but now that Internet broadcasting is commonplace, many videogame fans can now watch them, too.

[Iwata] On the other hand, the information sought by reporters present at the press conferences can vary greatly depending on their viewpoints. As a result, every year saw the difficulty of pleasing everyone increase. That’s when we settled for a new format to convey information. With the Nintendo Direct format, our E3 has greatly evolved in the last 2-3 years.

[Iwata] This is the back story as to how the Media Briefing changed into the Nintendo Digital Event. During the Digital Event broadcast, we also have distributors gather and open a conference specially dedicated to them.

[Iwata] During our financial results briefing on May 8th, we talked about how we won’t announce anything about the new NX hardware until next year, and how we don’t have plans to showcase our QoL (Quality of Life) business or smart device announcements at E3, which we at Nintendo consider a trade fair for console games. However, perhaps these statements may not reached out as far as we had hoped.

[Iwata] For this year’s Nintendo Digital Event, we will use the occasion to showcase Wii U and 3DS software that is expected to release this year and early next year. It will be voiced in English with Japanese subtitles. This year, I’d like to join you all in Japan to watch the broadcast together. (Note: The second half of that tweet obviously pertains only to Japan.)

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has reconfirmed what fans should and shouldn’t expect from the Digital Event today. You know, just in case you needed a reminder.

Once again, Nintendo will be focusing on games launching through early 2016. This applies to both Wii U and 3DS.

As mentioned previously, there will be no talk about Nintendo’s next system known as the “NX”. There also won’t be any news about the Big N’s Quality of Life initiative or smart device games.

That’s it! Iwata will be watching along from Japan as the Nintendo Digital Event airs. He’ll probably be tweeting throughout the day as well.

The Legend of Legacy launches in North America this fall. Stella Glow should arrive in time for the holidays.

Fiesta has been revealed as one of the new characters in Skylanders SuperChargers.

Activision shares the following description:

Despite being undead, Fiesta had always been the life of the party. He was once the head member of a popular mariachi band in the personal court of Count Moneybone, who all undead citizens respected immensely. In his spare time, Fiesta and his bandmates played music for all of the new arrivals that entered the Underworld. However, a day came when the new arrivals were actually several Skylanders, who had come on a mission to stop Count Moneybone from unleashing a robot army on all of Skylands. Fiesta then realized that he, like so many others, had been fooled by the evil Count into thinking he was kind and generous – not the vengeful monster he truly was. Unbeknownst to the Skylanders, Fiesta and his bandmates helped to distract the robot army so they could infiltrate Moneybone’s mansion and put a stop to him. Even though the Skylanders were unaware, this act of bravery and defiance did catch the attention of Master Eon, who recruited him at once.

Like other characters in the game, Fiesta will have his own unique vehicle known as the “Crypt Crusher”.
