Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns localization blog #3, Hamtaro not coming west
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 15 Comments
XSEED’s third Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns localization blog is now available. The latest post covers the many cats and dogs that can be had in the game.
On the topic of pets, some of you have been asking if Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns will keep the Hamtaro collaboration pet in the west. Unfortunately, the answer is no. XSEED did what it could to include Hamtaro, but it just wasn’t possible.
Regarding Hamtaro, XSEED explained:
One question I keep seeing on forums, Facebook posts, and Twitter is, “Will Hamtaro be in the game?” For those of you who hadn’t heard, the cute hamster character is featured as a pet in the Japanese version of Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns, complete with a little voice clip.
Sadly, Hamtaro will not be in the North American release of the game. I can’t get into the specifics of why—the reason is more complicated than the usual licensing fee problems you might expect—but I will say that you’ll be hard-pressed to find new, official Hamtaro merchandise on sale in this part of the world. While many remember the character from his TV debut over a decade ago, Hamtaro doesn’t really have an official presence in North America anymore.
It goes without saying that we were gutted by this development and tried to keep Hamtaro in. We hate releasing a game that doesn’t have all the features of the original version, but in this case our hands were tied. For those of you who were looking forward to raising Hamtaro, I’m very sorry. But even without the little guy, there are still more varieties of pet to raise than ever before. We hope you enjoy all the different ways animals play a part in the world of Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns.

[Review] Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Posted on 7 years ago by Philip(@P_Trah) in 3DS, Reviews | 7 Comments
System: 3DS
Release date: January 20, 2017
Developer: Square Enix / Level-5
Publisher Nintendo
For a long time, it seemed like the Dragon Quest series was fairly underappreciated in the West. Not necessarily by its publisher Square Enix, but by the fans of its own genre. The series has usually garnered a cult following of sorts overseas all the while enjoying heavy praise in Japan. Yet to my pleasure, I’ve begun to see a somewhat recent change in that viewpoint. With the highly anticipated Dragon Quest XI on the Nintendo Switch’s horizon and the remakes of Dragon Quest VII and now Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for the Nintendo 3DS, there couldn’t be a better time to get familiar with the Dragon Quest series. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is an adventure that those who are new to the series or those who are well acquainted with it won’t want to miss out on.

Here’s a more extensive overview of the game:
“In celebration of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the longest-running farming and life simulation series, the beloved Bokujo Monogatari franchise – now known as STORY OF SEASONS in the West – returns with its biggest adventure yet in STORY OF SEASONS: Trio of Towns. Settled on a homestead in the middle of three distinct and uniquely themed locales, players can explore a diverse landscape as they search for new ways to grow their farms and friendships. Extensive customization and gameplay options are on offer in Trio of Towns, with each village offering its own variety of regional crops, lads and ladies to romance, animals, festivals, furniture, decorations and more. More ways to play sprout up as players connect to one another locally or via the internet to chat, trade, and enhance items on a mysterious multiplayer island.”

These showcase various scenes of character interaction and dialogue between the members of the Survey Corps, as well as the new “Battle Act” system.
