Nintendo has a few things planned for NicoNico Chokaigi, which takes place in Japan next month.

First up is the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 2-on-2 World Grand Prix. This has a few folks from Japan taking on players in the U.S. We know that players from the North American side are comprised of a select few who took part in APEX 2015, including Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman, Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios, Freddie “FOW” Williams, and Averil “MJG” Morrisette II”.

The first portion of the Smash Bros. competition is singles and will take place on April 25 between 12 AM ET and 2 AM ET (April 24 for fans on the West Coast, 9 PM PT and 11 PM PT). The second part is team-based and will be held on April 26 between 12 AM ET and 1 AM ET (April 24 for fans on the West Coast, 9 PM PT and 11 PM PT). Winners will receive a pair of New 3DS units with an original face plate.

Aside from the heavy presence of Smash Bros., Nintendo will also be on hand for Splatoon demos. Other Nintendo-centric events include a Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire competition, plus stage shows for Dragon Quest ?, Pokken Tournament, The Great Ace Attorney, and Super Mario 30th anniversary from Center CX (featuring Mario Maker).

NicoNico Chokaigi runs on April 25 and April 26 at Makuhari Messe.

XSEED has released a new tutorial trailer for Story of Seasons. Watch it above. Additionally, you’ll find the game’s North American website here.

Update: Splatoon has now been changed to “May” on the site. Yoshi’s Woolly World and the Puzzle & Dragons package are listed for “2015”. Hmmm…

Nintendo UK’s press site may have outed launch dates for Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, Splatoon, and Yoshi’s Woolly World. According to the site, the three releases are slated for May 8, May 29, and June 26 respectively. Each one could very well be errors – or perhaps they’re spot on. It’s difficult to say at the moment.

For what it’s worth, World of Games (a retailer in Switzerland) lists Yoshi’s Woolly World for release on June 26 as well. You may also remember that when rumors about potential amiibo support for Splatoon surfaced, the “leak” came from a retailer that listed the title for May 29.

We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything concrete!

Nintendo has prepared a new 3DS firmware update. Version 9.6.0-24, which is needed in order to access the eShop, can be downloaded now.

Today’s update does a few things. First, Nintendo has added a Home Menu Layout setting, which lets users save/load up to eight layouts of the Home Menu with different theme and software icon arrangements.

amiibo settings have also been added for regular 3DS owners (non-New 3DS). Nintendo reconfirms that a peripheral will be released later this year to make use of its figures.

Lastly, additional categories have been added to the Theme Shop under “View More”, and system stability/usability has been improved.
