Root Film

PQube and Kadokawa Games have set a release date for Root Film in the west. The mystery adventure title will launch in North America and Europe on March 19, the two sides announced today.

A new trailer for Root Film was also shared today. We have that below, along with an overview of the game.

The BEUC and its members have submitted a complaint against Nintendo to the European Commission and national consumer protection authorities following close to 25,000 reports concerning Joy-Con drift. Switch owners filed complaints from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Greece. These reports claim that the Joy-Con controller malfunction in 88 percent of cases within the first two years of use.

Today’s announcement states that the “BEUC has submitted a complaint to the European Commission and national consumer protection authorities for premature obsolescence and misleading omissions of key consumer information (on the basis of the EU’s Unfair Commercial Practices Directive).” It is now “calling for a Europe-wide investigation into the issue and for Nintendo to be obliged to urgently address the premature failures of its product.” For the time being, the BEUC says consumers should have their Joy-Con be repaired for free and consumers “should be properly informed
about the limited lifespan of this product.”

Last night, Nintendo and Capcom revealed a new Switch bundle and Pro Controller featuring Monster Hunter Rise. It’s now been confirmed that Europe and Australia are getting both products as well.

The newest issue of Weekly Famitsu has dropped, and with it comes the schedule for character releases via DLC for Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. Each character is priced at 500 yen, the exception being Asagi, who will be available to players for free. Additional colors will be available for players who purchase all of the characters. R-Type Final 2

This spring sees the launch of R-Type Final 2. For Japan, the release date is announced as April 29th per Weekly Famitsu– whereas we are still awaiting a western date. Nintendo has announced the latest Spirit Board event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which will feature yellow characters. Defeat these spirits to obtain more gold than you normally would.

The new event goes live on January 29. As usual, it will last for a total of three days.

iam8bit, Akupara Games, and Queen Bee are teaming up on a physical version of Spinch. The “transportive side-scroller” was previously offered only as an eShop download.

Most of the big 2020 events for awards have already concluded, but the 24th annual D.I.C.E. Awards won’t be handed out until April 8. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences revealed the full nominees today.

A number of Nintendo-related titles have been nominated in various categories, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Hades. The full list can be found below.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been pushed back from its originally-planned 2021 release window. It will now launch sometime in 2022, Daedalic Entertainment and newly-announced co-publisher Nacon have announced. Nacon will also handle distribution.

The partnership for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will “ensure that the game will meet the expectations of fans”. Further mentioned is that “the universe will be faithfully represented thanks to the partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises, the company that holds the adaptation rights to the novel series by J.R.R. Tolkien.”
