Yesterday, we reported on Square Enix and its increased focus on the Switch. It seems like that was not just marketing speak – today, Takashi Tokita, who works at Square Enix, posted a photo of the Switch on his Twitter account with the caption “Top-secret mission starts!”. While not exactly an official announcement, it does seem pretty likely that he has started work on a Switch game. Whether it’s a brand-new game or a port is impossible to say at this point.

Tokita has been with Square Enix since 1985 and as such has been involved with numerous projects in a variety of roles. Some of his most notable achievements include being one of the directors of Chrono Trigger and directing Parasite Eve. He has also been heavily involved with the various Final Fantasy IV spin-offs and re-releases over the years.

Star Fox

Q-Games founder Dylan Cuthbert conducted a new Reddit AMA today. As a Star Fox developer who has played an influential role in the Star Fox series, he had plenty to say about the franchise. He spoke about an old-school re-make pitched to Nintendo, working on Star Fox Command (and its endings), and his own personal ideas for a new game. Cuthbert also weighed in on Switch, Nintendo’s Game Boy title for “X” and why it never left Japan, and more.

We’ve collected a number of important responses from the Reddit AMA below. You can read the full thing right here.

Yasunori Mitsuda is the lead composer on Xenoblade Chronicles 2. On his personal Facebook page this week, he provided a status update on the music.

Recording for Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s music appears to be pretty much complete. It was worked on by 150 people (note: in case this isn’t clear, this is just the musicians), the largest production Mitsuda has been involved with. The mixing process for music began this week.

It looks like SEGA is considering releasing a physical edition for Sonic Mania, according to SEGA Product Manager Jim Dyer. While it’s not confirmed yet, the positive feedback received at SXSW for the idea seems to have helped sway SEGA towards a physical release.

From an interview on Twinfinite.com, Dyer had this to say on the possibility of a physical version of Sonic Mania:

“We would love to do one. We want the community to know that we are listening, and at SXSW they suggested a lot of interest in us following through with a physical release. But we’re also aware that audience approves of anything Sonic related, so while we are listening and it is something we’d like to do, at this stage we are going to see how it goes.”

As Sonic Mania is releasing on the Switch as well, this would obviously mean that Switch owners would be able to get their hands on a physical release as well. Only time will tell at this point.

Earlier this week, Nintendo showed off the furry Splatoon 2 character found in video footage and the Testfire event on its Japanese Twitter page. An English name was made known today. Officially, the character is called Li’l Judd.

Here’s the introduction for the Splatoon 2 Tumblr page:

“Breaking news! We’ve confirmed the identity of the furry creature seen previously in both video footage and the recent Testfire event! Ready for it? Everyone, meet Li’l Judd!

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit he’s adorable, but from what we’ve been able to observe, he’s gunning for Judd’s spot as premier Turf War judge like a bloodthirsty tiger crouching in the jungle underbrush. The details of his origins are still shrouded in mystery, but rest assured our research on this fuzzy subject will continue.”
