November 2014 NPD: Sonic Boom, Persona Q, limited edition Mario Bros. 2 3DS XL sales

NeoGAF’s “creamsugar” has come through with a new set of sales data leaks from this month’s NPD report.
First, let’s talk about software. Sonic Boom is off to a rough start, as Rise of Lyric only moved 25,000 copies in its first month. Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal on 3DS apparently sold even lower.
On a somewhat brighter note, Persona Q: Shadows of the Labyrinth sold around 48,000 units last month. That’s not too bad considering the game launched during the very last week of November and was up against anticipated titles like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
Finally, we have news about the limited edition New Super Mario Bros. 2 3DS XL. Consumers snatched up 140,000 of these handhelds in the U.S. last month.

New Splatoon information shared by official Twitter

The creators of Splatoon went to Twitter to update us on how the game keeps track of your points and how much detail they’re putting into the game, and thanks to some folks over at NeoGAF, we have the tweets translated and ready to read!

“Report from the Squid Research Laboratory. In Turf Battles, the amount of area covered by ink becomes your points. The number of times you knocked out enemies and the number of times you were knocked out is counted to, but these don’t contribute to your score. This means that the ones who spread the most ink are the best.”

“Squid lovers may already be aware of this but a squid’s jaw is called a ‘beak’, and is firm and sharp much like a bird’s is. Looking closely, you will notice that the Inkling’s teeth also have an interesting shape. By the way, the meat around the beak on a real squid is crunchy and tasty.”

Mario Party 10 has now been classified in Australia. I’m not sure if this was mentioned before, but it now looks like we have official confirmation that NDCUBE is the main developer of the project. They’ve led the way on the past few Mario Party games, so that shouldn’t be a big shock to most!

November 2014 NPD: Nintendo’s response – big Pokemon, Smash, amiibo sales
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 11 Comments
Nintendo’s response to the November 2014 NPD report is in. Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and amiibo all experienced high sales.
On the portable side, 3DS software sales rose by over 40 percent compared to the same time last year. Wii U hardware and software sales increased by over 10 percent and 90 percent respectively over the same period last year. The week of November 23 was the biggest single week of Wii U hardware sales since the console’s launch in 2012.
Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire have sold almost 1.5 million combined physical and digital units in the U.S. thus far. Total Smash Bros. 3DS sales have surpassed 1.5 million copies while Smash Bros. Wii U sold nearly 710,000 units. Nintendo says amiibo sales “are approximately equal to sales of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U so far, while Link, Mario and Pikachu (in that order) have been the best-selling figures to date.”

Today’s Xenoblade Chronicles X Twitter update introduces another two designers working on the Wii U RPG.
First up is Yoko Tsukamoto. Director Tetsuya Takahashi, who published the tweets, says that by mentioning Tsukamoto’s name, fans will understand that the world isn’t just made up of sci-fi elements. That’s because Tsukamoto is a well-known fantasy illustrator.
Takahashi additionally introduces Takashi Kojo, an enemy designer. The highlight of Kojo’s designs will be huge enemies. He’s also working on designing the strongest unique enemy in the game and the Growth Soldiers.
Why Retro City Rampage DX won’t be coming to Wii U
Posted on 10 years ago by Patrick(@Patricklous) in News, Wii Shop Channel, Wii U, Wii U eShop | 3 Comments
Retro City Rampage developer Brian Provinciano recently posted an explanation for why Vblank has no intention of porting their game to the Wii U. The many reasons for why include the cost of developing a version that would be near-identical to the one already available on WiiWare, the unprofitability of the WiiWare version and the fact that no other ports are planned. I’m sure this is disappointing news for some, but the game is still available on the 3DS and WiiWare, including all the content from the new “DX” update.

Sakurai talks Duck Hunt inclusion in Smash Bros., 8-Player Smash originally planned for Melee, more

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launched in Japan last week. As such, Japanese magazine Famitsu sat down with director Masahiro Sakurai for a chat about the latest entry in Nintendo’s successful series. Some very interesting tidbits were shared, to say the least.
One of the topics Famitsu brings up is the inclusion of Duck Hunt. “The original Duck Hunt is a quite major game,” Sakurai said. He notes that the title could be the best-selling shooter game in the world since it was included with the NES in America.
