gameindustry.biz published an interview today with Mike Quigley, the chief marketing officer at Niantic. Naturally, the interview centered around Pokemon GO, Niantic’s biggest success so far. You can read the full interview here; below are a couple of interesting tidbits:

On how real-life seasons and weather affect a game like Pokemon GO:

“We’ll monitor this stuff, and come this time next year, we might start to think about doing things for the likes of Germany, the UK and North America, who are going through their winter.”

“A lot of people give us credit for the summer release timing, but we also saw strong pick-ups in places like Australia and Brazil, when it was winter for them. There’s a lot of seasonal dynamics we need to consider. It’s a variable that most developers don’t need to worry about. Hopefully we can learn and figure out ways to keep consumers engaged. Maybe there will be other spikes in corresponding glove and hat and coat sales.

Nintendo recently announced that the proper unveiling of the Switch, the company’s newest home console, would take place on January 12th at Tokyo Big Sight, with the chance for visitors to try it out themselves during the following days. Unsurprisingly, this won’t be the only time potential buyers will be able to get their hands on the Switch. Today, Nintendo announced that the Switch will be playable at Tokaigi 2017: Game Party Japan on February 11th and February 12th at Makuhari Messe in Chiba (the same venue used for Tokyo Game Show). Further details were not announced at this point. Nintendo is also listed as the sole “special partner” for the convention.

The maintenance being conducted on Miitomo is over, and players can now boot up the app to see what’s new. Nintendo introduced a major update detailed in this post.

After applying the update, you should be greeted with a notice about a three-part celebration. By completing certain tasks, Miitomo users can earn Nintendo-inspired wallpaper and flooring. Character collaboration items are also returning, beginning with Splatoon today and continuing for two additional weeks with Zelda and Metroid.

Nintendo is also giving out several free items. You should receive the Mario suit and cap as well as Luigi suit and cap and postal worker hat/uniform. New daily bonus items for logging in are planned as well.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a new Miitomo Drop stage. Access “Swords and sorcery! Miitomo RPG #1” for some fresh items.
