The Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, will be getting costumes in Super Mario Maker next week, on July 8th. A special event course will be available, and players will have to beat it twice to get each costume. With the Sisters’ amiibo releasing, it is possible that scanning them will unlock the costumes as well, although this has not been confirmed. You can watch a video of the course and the costumes below:
With the 76th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders occurring earlier this week, Nintendo has released the approval rating of the board of directors. For the most part, those who were on the board last year had a small increase in approval rating, although Tatsumi Kimishima saw a slight decline. This is most likely due to his change in role to President, however. Compared to Satoru Iwata’s approval rating from last year, there was an increase in percentage (from 83.45% to 87.14%). You can see the approval ratings below (numbers in parentheses represent those from 2015, for those who had been on the board)
– Tatsumi Kimishima: 87.14% (92.60%)
– Genyo Takeda: 95.26% (92.07% )
– Shigeru Miyamoto: 95.26% (92.08%)
– Shigeyuki Takahashi: 95.87% (94.46%)
– Shuntaro Furukawa: 96.38%
– Naoki Noguchi: 94.78%
– Yoshimi Mitamura: 96.81%
– Katsuhiro Umeyama: 97.49%
– Naoki Mizutani: 95.15% (94.52%)
Earlier this week, Media Create data revealed that Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns sold 100,000 copies in its first week in Japan. Per usual, the sales tracker has now followed up with a report that offers more insight into the title’s debut.
Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns sold through 61.29 percent of its initial shipment. It didn’t live up to the original game in both first week sales (131,000 units) and sell-through rate (73.07 percent). On the other hand, retailers have noticed that fans who’ve picked up the game are noticeably in their 30s, so it is suggested that there is a strong core fan base that has loyally followed the series through its 20 years.
Looking at the past 3DS releases of Story of Seasons (total sales 286,000 copies) and Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning (287,000 copies), both had managed a stable sales volume. Media Create is therefore observing whether Trio of Towns will be able to keep the same sales volume in the future.
In partnership with Nintendo, UNIQLO has launched its UNIQLO T-shirt (UT) Grand Prix 2017 design contest. Anyone around the world can enter until August 31.
Given the partnership, it makes sense that the theme of this year’s contest is Nintendo. Participants are encouraged “to express the joy and excitement of Nintendo’s games through clothing while also fostering creative talent.” Fans can make designs based on the company’s various franchises including Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong.
UNIQLO UT Grand Prix winners will be notified in Spring 2017. They’ll receive up to $10,000 in prize money, and an invitation to attend a special awards ceremony in Japan. Shigeru Miyamoto will be one of the competition’s judges and will also be present at the awards ceremony. Major prize winners will also receive a NX signed by Miyamoto.
These are the full lineup of prizes:
– Grand Prize: $10,000, an invitation to awards ceremony attended by Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo NX signed by him, and a special commemorative award
– Second Prize: $3,000, an invitation to awards ceremony attended by Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo NX signed by him
– Finalist Prizes: $500 each
Winning designs will be featured in UNIQLO’s Spring/Summer 2017 UT Collection, which will be available in men’s, women’s, and kids’ lines from UNIQLO stores in 18 countries and at the UNIQLO.com online store.

On July 20, the arcade version of Pokken Tournament will be getting a major update. The game will be adding Garchomp, Braixen, and Shadow Mewtwo. On top of this, it sounds like there will be a new character on the way.
A broadcast on Niconico during the middle of July will be going over the update. Additionally, based on the official image above, it’s implied that a new fighter teased will be revealed.
The Niconico stream will air on July 14 at the following times:
– 4 AM PT
– 7 AM ET
– 12 PM in the UK
– 1 PM in Europe
Although this news pertains specifically to the arcade version of Pokken Tournament, one would have to think that the fighter would be made available in the Wii U version as well. References to Scizor, Darkrai, and Empoleon were spotted in the latest update, but that doesn’t necessarily confirm that one of these three will be announced.
