Nintendo announced Tank Troopers for 3DS during a Nintendo Direct back in September. In Japan, it’s hitting the eShop next Wednesday. Now we have new details about the game.
In the game, you can have your favorite trooper ride tanks and use special abilities. There are 30 single-player missions which have objectives like reaching the goal within the time limit, or fighting a giant tank. Stages have variation like lush grasslands, deserts with undulations, and a port with a dense formation of warehouses.
36 types of tanks and 13 troopers are included, each with different stats and abilities. You can pair up the tanks and troopers as you like to match up with the stage and battle features.
Tank Troopers supports up to six players in local multiplayer, including Download Play. However, in Download Play, everyone uses the same tank and trooper.
Polygon has put up the latest – and final – video in its “Devs Make Mario” series. In today’s feature, Touhou Project creator Jun’ya Ota (ZUN) makes a level in the game. View it below.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night creator Koji Igarashi took to Kickstarter today and explained how the team is going about improving environments on the game.
One of the issues Igarashi wanted to address was players being unsure of “where a platform was, or whether the thing they were looking at was a wall or something they could pass through.” This has been improved by increasing the brightness of the front side of platforms while making more distant parts of the environments darker.
The Bloodstained team is also now making use of procedural generation in environments. Before that term scares you off, the explanation makes sense, as it will allow for smoother development. To put it simply, procedural generation is being used “to auto-generate environmental grime and destruction effects.” Doing so means environments will have more of a visual flair and will ensure that areas won’t give off the impression of being “looped”. Variation could have been done by hand, but it “would require a disproportionately large amount of resources,” Igarashi noted. Procedural generation allows for that variation without putting a huge burden on the developers.
The following video shows the usage of procedural generation:

Ehm2k from The Cutting Room Floor has been data mining Miitomo, and has come across some curious images in the process. These files seem to be for the upcoming Fire Emblem game for mobile. We’re able to see a map, a stone monument which seems related to the series, and more.
The Cutting Room Floor definitely knows its stuff when it comes to data mining and other things of that nature. It’s also fairly likely that the images are indeed for the Fire Emblem title, as one of them contains the same emblem from Nintendo’s previously-released logo. There were some Zelda files spotted as well, but nothing currently points to them being related to upcoming projects – only old games instead.
