The results are in! Sorry for the wait; I’ve been busy with that whole “taking a holiday” thing, but I’m finally back with the Internet’s latest 2013 retrospective. On this two-hour long podcast I’m counting down the top ten game soundtracks of 2013 (on Nintendo platforms) as voted by Nintendo Everything readers. The colossal playlist of quality tracks is broken up by me reading out your comments and various synonyms for the word “song”. I was testing out a new microphone, so my apologies if you can’t understand a word I’m saying.

You can find the podcast right here!

edit: Seems Google Drive wasn’t too happy about the massive influx of traffic so I’ve also uploaded the podcast here.

If you want to know what soundtrack took the coveted #1 spot you should probably just listen to the podcast, but I’ve included the results over the break anyway.

ON THIS EPISODE: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds dominates discussion throughout the episode, but we also hear a bit about FTL from Austin, Phoenix Wright: Dual Destinies from Laura, and Braid/Proteus/Counter Strike GO from Jack.

ALSO: Listener mail has us talking about the best way to spend eShop bucks.

AND: A discussion about the consequences of the new item system in A Link Between Worlds rounds out the ending.

Wanted to take a few minutes to talk about my top 3 games of 2013. You can also find this in written form at the link below:

http://nintendoeverything.com/feature-nintendoeverythings-2013-game-of-the-year-picks/

Hopefully this video will tide you over while I work on/finish up the next true “Random Thoughts” entry. Finally decided on something worthwhile to talk about!

Apologies for any awkwardness and/or me sounding too boring. This video stuff is still new to me, so hopefully I’ll improve as I go along!

2013 is over and 2014 has officially started. Here’s a big jumbled mess of choices that our staff members had for their 2013 games of the year!

To make an argument against the thesis that 2013 was one of the all-time best years in gaming would be a foolhardy activity. The year saw the release of instant-classics like The Last of Us and Super Mario 3D World, as well as world-stoppers like Grand Theft Auto V and Pokémon X and YZelda made a big comeback on 3DS alongside Fire Emblem, and after years of no news we finally saw the release of Pikmin 3 on Wii U. An intro paragraph like this– no matter how densely packed– could never do justice the year we’ve had, so let’s let the staff of NintendoEverything do it instead.

After the break, you’ll hear from Brian (site admin and boss man), Austin (podcast man and writer guy), Jack (podcast man and writer guy), Spencer (writer guy), Patrick (writer guy) and Scott (video guy) about what they all found to be their absolute favorite games of 2013. Consider this list primarily subjective.

The Final List

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! 2014 is certainly a year to be excited for in the world of Nintendo, as new games such as Super Smash Bros., X, Mario Kart 8, and more are on the horizon.

As far as what lies ahead for Nintendo Everything… well, there’s plenty! We finally launched a new and proper design for the site on our sixth anniversary a few months ago, and we continue to tinker away at new feature additions and small visual changes, which we’ll hopefully have news on soon.

In 2014, I’m also going to try and emphasize video content a bit more. I’ve had one particular idea in my head – for at least a year, if not two – that I’ve been dying to try, but timing and other factors have made it difficult for me to pursue previously. I’ll be looking to change that this year. Along with my new idea (that’s all you’ll get out of me on that for now!), I’ll be continuing with Random Thoughts and we’ll possibly introduce a couple of additional things as well.

Aside from videos, you can expect other regular updates from us – tons of additional news, more features, more reviews, and more podcasts (thanks Austin, Jack, and Laura!).

Finally, I’ve been meaning to bring up one more site-related topic before moving on. I admittedly do a terrible job at promoting, so you may be unaware of things like our YouTube and Facebook pages. Did you also know that we have a sister site that covers everything gaming? Don’t forget about our forum as well!

Now it’s time to get mushy!

Although Nintendo Everything is ultimately a “blog”, I tend to leave any and all personal updates aside (including mushy stuff like this) so that content can take the spotlight here. At the end of the day, that’s what you guys care about! Still, I hope you all know how much I truly appreciate each and every one one of you. I appreciate the comments you all bring. I appreciate all feedback we receive – both good and bad. I also appreciate some of the very neat people I’ve met “virtually” through the site – especially on the forum and comments section. Wait… this is starting to sound like Thanksgiving with me sharing what I’m thankful for! Haha.

If you ever have any comments, questions, or concerns, you can always feel free to send an email, a message on the forum, or a tweet. Frankly, I’d love to hear from all of you! Is there anything you’re not satisfied with on Nintendo Everything? Annoying ad causing problems? Have an idea for something you’d like to see on the site? What do you want to see here in the future? Just let me know. I welcome all kinds of feedback.

With that, Happy 2014! Let’s make this year a good one!

More:

ON THIS EPISODE: Laura and Jack discuss the pros and cons of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Austin and Jack briefly muse on Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and Laura talks about her second-holiday in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

PLUS: Listener mail about the run button in Mario and whether games can train you to perform new skills.

AND: An intense, hour-long discussion about what games should be named “3DS game of the year” and “Wii U game of the year“.
