Fans looking for an update on Romancing SaGa 3 may not have to wait much longer. Square Enix has announced a new live stream for August 29, which will feature that game as well as the mobile title Romancing SaGa Re:Universe.

It will be held at the following times:

Back in May, Square Enix announced Star Ocean: First Departure R, an HD remaster of Star Ocean: First Departure, which itself was a remake of the very first Star Ocean game. Ahead of Tokyo Game Show 2019, where the game will be featured, Square Enix published the first four screenshots of the game, as well as a little description on their TGS site (credit goes to Gematsu for the translation):

The 2007-released remake of Star OceanStar Ocean: First Departure—appears as a high-definition port with new features! In addition to the high-definition upgrade, the game is fully voiced through new recordings by the original Star Ocean cast. The character illustrations have also been redrawn based on the original designs, which you can switch between with the original remake illustrations.

Dragon Quest XI S received its demo earlier this week. It has a ton to offer, including hours of gameplay. Making it even more appealing is the ability to transfer progress to the full game.

For the most part, the demo has gone over well. Unfortunately though, a number of players have encountered errors and crashing issues. Producer Hokuto Okamoto has now weighed in on the situation.

After Square Enix announced the release date for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered this week, a physical version was starting to look unlikely. Given how close the game is (September 3) and the price point (just $20), the quick turnaround for a retail edition didn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Square Enix has now confirmed that Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will be digital-only. That news comes straight from the official Japanese website.

As for Play-Asia, which had opened pre-orders for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered and originally gave hope for a physical version, the retailer has now removed those listings

Dragon Quest Builders 2 recently released to much acclaim on Nintendo Switch. However, it seems like the future of the series might be uncertain. Today, Kazuya Niinou, the director of Dragon Quest Builders 1 and 2, announced on Twitter that he has left Square Enix. He thanked his co-workers and especially Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii for his guidance. Niinou stated that after seven years at Square Enix and after finishing Builders 2, he felt burned out a bit, so he wanted to leave Square Enix behind to work in a new environment. He said that he will continue to watch over Builders 2 and still work with Square Enix as an external contractor; still, this means that Builders won’t receive any additional content from here on out. As for what’s next for Niinou, he will announce that next week.

System: Switch
Release date: August 22, 2019
Developer: Tokyo RPG Factory
Publisher: Square Enix

Tokyo RPG Factory’s offerings have been nothing short of fascinating, releasing the likes of I Am Setsuna as its debut title in 2016 and following it up with Lost Sphere in 2017. While those may have been hit or miss for a lot of people due to gameplay elements that didn’t feel fully realized or mechanically sound, their stories intrigued and impacted those that played them, giving players a much more somber narrative that hit specific themes of family and sacrifice that connected with many around the world. Oninaki continues Tokyo RPG Factory’s trend of melancholic storytelling by taking on much heavier topics surrounding life and death, making it easily one of the most depressing games I’ve played in years. However, the way it’s all presented from the art direction, music score, lands, cities, characters, and gameplay is all done so tastefully and with such finesse, Oninaki serves to be a message of growth not only through grief, but for Tokyo RPG Factory as a development studio.

Square Enix has sent out an English trailer for the RPG Oninaki, which is out now on Switch. We’ve included the video below.
