Nintendo has posted a couple of pieces of concept art from Super Mario Odyssey. The first photo, pictured above, features rough sketches of both Mario and Cappy. Meanwhile, the image below has a few looks at Cappy alone.

Nintendo is celebrating the start of 2018 with a few new images. Above, we have some special New Year’s art for ARMS. You can also find a new Super Mario Odyssey-themed January wallpaper and calendar below.

Two of the biggest and best games this year were made by Nintendo. We’re of course referring to Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.

Recently, IGN caught up with developers of both games to hear about what they think about each other’s games. Super Mario Odyssey producer Yoshiaki Koizumi plus Zelda: Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and producer Eiji Aonuma shared their thoughts.

The Super Mario Odyssey Sound Selection can now be purchased on iTunes. In total, 12 songs are available. You can purchase them individually for $1.29 or as a full set for $7.99.

Visit the official iTunes page here. We also have the full track listing below.

It’s quite rare for Nintendo to make the soundtracks of their first-party games available to purchase, but it seems like they’ll be making an exception with Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo has announced that a Super Mario Odyssey “Sound Selection” will be available on iTunes starting tomorrow, December 22nd. As the name implies, this isn’t the full soundtrack release, but only a small sample of it. The following twelve tracks will be included:

  1. Cascade Kingdom
  2. Tostarena
  3. Steam Gardens
  4. New Donk City
  5. Jump Up, Super Star! (New Donk City Festival Edition)
  6. Shiveria
  7. Bowser’s Castle
  8. Break Free! (Lead The Way)
  9. Jump Up, Super Star! (Japanese version)
  10. Break Free! (Lead The Way) (Japanese version)
  11. Jump Up, Super Star! (Karaoke version)
  12. Break Free! (Lead The Way) (Karaoke version)

If you want the full soundtrack, you’re going to have to wait a little while longer. The official Super Mario Odyssey soundtrack will be released in Japan on February 28th 2018, for the price of 4,600 yen. It will come on a total of four discs – the first three discs will feature 31 tracks each, while the fourth one will contain 43 tracks, for a total of 136 tracks. The soundtrack will also come with a booklet featuring comments from Aimi Mukohara (the Japanese voice actress for Pauline and performer of Jump Up, Super Star! and Break Free!) and the development team, as well as two sheets of stickers. No word yet on a Western release of the soundtrack, so you might have to import this one from Japan.

The latest sales figures from Japan were reported today. Thanks to those numbers, we have an interesting stat about Super Mario Odyssey. After eight weeks, it’s actually the best-selling 3D Mario game ever, beating out Super Mario 3D Land, both Galaxy games, and everything else.

Here’s how the numbers stack up for all of the 3D Mario titles after eight weeks:

Super Mario Odyssey has now broke one million physical copies sold in Japan since its inital release. The Switch is also very close to topping 3 million at its current number of 2,988,399.

The BIU, the German games industry association, has revealed its sales awards for this past November. Super Mario Odyssey has received the platinum award, which means that it sold between 200,000 and 500,000 copies in November alone. Splatoon 2 got the gold award, meaning that it sold between 100,000 and 200,000 copies.

These are both very impressive numbers, especially since Mario Odyssey launched in October and Splatoon 2 was released all the way back in July.

Super Mario Odyssey is all about jumping. Yet despite that, one person has managed to complete the experience without that action – at least according to what the game classifies as such.

Super Mario Odyssey has an interesting definition of jumping. Capturing the necessary enemies for completion and then using any of the “jumping” actions doesn’t actually increase the official counter. Likewise, Super Mario Odyssey only classifies some actions as jumps, such as standard jumps, double jumps, and triple jumps. Everything required for the “Y” button is legal, for example, and going up in the air by bouncing off of Cappy’s hat is fine.

Based on what Super Mario Odyssey says is and isn’t a jump, Gamechamp3000 set out on a mission to see if you could complete the game. The results: it’s possible to finish without jumping, technically. There were bumps along the way, but Gamechamp3000 managed to do it. You can see how it all played out in the video below.

The new Super Mario Cereal is starting to reach some folks a bit early. Earlier today, AbdallahSmash026 posted an unboxing video and also tried out the amiibo functionality with Super Mario Odyssey. Check it out below.
