Update: Patch notes added after the break.

The newest update for Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS is out now. Both games have the latest version available – 1.1.0.

On Wii U, the update download comes in at 286 MB. The 3DS update takes up 2,096 blocks of space.

Today’s update brings about a bunch of content. For instance, there’s now Tournament Mode and YouTube replay uploads on Wii U, plus new stages and Mii Fighter costumes for both versions.

Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale only just launched in Japan last month. Despite this, a new game in the series is seemingly in the works.

A fan in Japan picked up the strategy guide for Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale, which reveals that the franchise’s next game is already being made. It’s supposed to be like the 1998 PlayStation title Poporogue. Apparently, it’s also stated in the guide: “(The next game) has many new species”.

So that’s some interesting news. We don’t know if the new game will be on a Nintendo platform, but given how A Story of Seasons Fairytale is for 3DS, there’s a decent shot of it happening.

Final Fantasy Explorers is coming overseas, Square Enix has announced. The game is due out on January 26, 2016 in North America and January 29, 2016 in Europe.

Here’s an overview of the game from Square Enix:

Either through solo play or with up to three other Explorers, players can dive into dungeons to collect crystals scattered throughout the world while battling classic FINAL FANTASY® enemies.

FINAL FANTASY EXPLORERS focuses on cooperative play with friends and utilizes a refined party system allowing Explorers to master over 20 new and familiar jobs—including Knight, Monk, Black Mage and White Mage—to defeat the realm’s mightiest monsters and even recruit them for battle. Players will have the ability to call upon the powers of eidolons like Ifrit and Bahamut, as well as transform into other legendary characters from the FINAL FANTASY series via the Trance feature.

The multiplayer functionality is enabled through the Nintendo 3DS system’s wireless communication functions.

Story
The world is on the brink of war over its reserves of crystals, the planet’s chief source of power. In his previous Famitsu column, Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai wrote about the passing of Satoru Iwata. This week’s issue of the magazine has another piece from Sakurai in which he touches on Iwata’s funeral.

Sakurai wrote:

“Normally at a place like this, one’s eyes go to the photo [of the deceased]. The smiling face of Mr. Iwata surrounded by flowers was a very nice picture.”

“Inside there was the still body of Mr. Iwata. He was probably dressed in traditional white funeral garb, his glasses removed, and his nose stuffed [with cotton]. And today, his body was going to be burned and reduced to nothing. Mr. Iwata would no longer exist in this world.”

Nintendo reported its first quarter results of the fiscal 2016 year yesterday. Bloomberg reveals that, during this period (April 1 through June 30), the company sold another 4.2 million amiibo. Total sales of the figures are now up to 14.7 million since last year’s launch.

Famitsu reports that the 3DS version of Monster Strike features the same story and characters as the anime adaptation. Players will be able to explore a 3D field and complete quests. It’s an RPG with a strong adventure element. Just like in the anime, the main character uses a smartphone.

Famitsu might be sharing more details about Monster Strike in its next issue. However, that information could be exclusively about the anime. We’ll see!
