Though I haven’t had much experience playing their previous work, I’ve always had a lot of respect for Lord of Magna’s original developer, Neverland. Whether it’s the intricate puzzles of Lufia, the DIY dungeons of Dark Seed or the laid-back life simulation of Rune Factory, their games always find some way to put a unique spin on the role-playing genre. What a shame then that what is likely their final title lacks this same creative spark, with a story that falls back on tired tropes and a blend of strategy RPG and dating sim mechanics that fails to capture the appeal of both genres. It’s nice that the game even exists following Neverland’s declaration of bankruptcy, but Lord of Magna’s troubled development is very much apparent in the final product, and I wonder just how finished the game actually is.

Mario Maker appears to be given a new name, even if it’s not a major change.

At the Nintendo World Championships, the title was played for the final round. The introduction video showed off some new art as well as the updated name: “Super Mario Maker”. Check it out below.

Missed out on the Nintendo World Championships 2015 pre-show? No worries! We’ve posted it in full below. The show featured a level from Yoshi’s Woolly World as well as the announcement of EarthBound Beginnings.

The Nintendo World Championships 2015 are beginning in just a short while. The tournament will kick off in 90 minutes from now (6 PM ET / 3 PM PT / 11 PM in the UK / 12 PM in Europe), though the pre-show goes live in an hour (5:35 PM ET / 2:35 PM PT / 10:35 PM in the UK / 11:30 PM in Europe).

We’ve attached the stream below. If any significant news is announced during the Nintendo World Championships, we’ll have it on the site right away.

Xenoblade Chronicles X has been out in Japan for quite some time and while the rest of us gaze enviously at the latest Xeno entry before it comes our way, it’s interesting to note some of the changes that have been made possible thanks to the Wii U. The boost in graphical power allowed Monolith Soft to flex their artistic muscle and craft a gorgeous open world, the improved online infrastructure allowed not only for interactions with other players but also the means to push out additional content (which is a staggering thought for a game with a story up around the 70 hour mark) and the most striking change came thanks to the dense, orchestral based soundtrack, which harvested a very different tone to Xenoblade Chronicles back in 2010. Moving away from the smaller ensembles covering any combination of rock, pop and classical tracks, Xenoblade Chronicles X was scored by Hiroyuki Sawano, renowned for more grand compositions focusing on a full orchestra sound, a stark contrast to the ensembles players had been exposed to previously. It was a different sound that was needed to accommodate the new direction of the game, but it was a fairly big risk to take as Xenoblade Chronicles’ soundtrack was so endeared by fans.

Update: And quickly confirmed! The email is real and legitimate.

amiibo-email

Nintendo appears to be preparing new amiibo based on Animal Crossing and Mario.

Allegedly, an email has gone out from Nintendo of Spain revealing the figures. These include Animal Crossing designs for Tom Nook, Isabelle, Mabel, K.K. Slider. Additionally, an 8-bit Mario seems to be on the way.
