Various Nintendo/SEGA tidbits from upcoming “Console Wars” book
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 28 Comments
Later this month, a book will be released that covers the console wars between Nintendo and SEGA known as “Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle That Defined a Generation”. GamesBeat secured an early copy and shared some very interesting details about some of the information included.
Check out the summary below:
- Nintendo didn’t care about making friends, and this helped Sega. Making friends was nice for Sega, but it was much easier to rely on the hatred others had for Nintendo.
- The U.S. government brought a lawsuit against Nintendo on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
- The real reason Sega failed was because of the war between Sega of Japan and Sega of America.
- Walmart barely even wanted to speak to Sega of America, let alone stock its Genesis system back in the early days of the 16-bit console’s life in the U.S. This was…Because Nintendo was scary as hell.
- Sega of America boss Tom Kalinske was integral to Barbie, Flintstone vitamins, and He-Man

Nintendo says it will not reveal new hardware E3 2014
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 13 Comments
CVG has received confirmation from Nintendo that new hardware will not be revealed during E3 2014 next month. “I can confirm Nintendo is not revealing any hardware at this year’s E3,” a representative said.
Rumors regarding an upcoming announcement gained significant traction yesterday after several publications came forward claiming that a system of some sort would make its debut at the expo. Chatter was first picked up on from IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, and a few other sites backed up claims that a reveal was set for E3.
With Nintendo now denying the rumors, it would seem that the whole situation was comprised of nothing more than speculation after all.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U screenshots (5/2/14) – Dillon Assist Trophy

In addition to today’s screenshots, Sakurai passed along the following message on Miiverse:
We didn’t introduce ALL of the Assist Trophies in the Smash Bros. Direct. Here’s Dillon from Dillon’s Rolling Western!! He may rival Sonic in the art of rolling.
This is his trophy. He may be an animal, and his buckles are definitely on the adorable side, but there’s no denying he looks cool!! His Assist Trophy can even do things like a quick charge.
Spyborgs dev speaks about how the game was rushed, pre-beta version shipped in the US, rough Bionic/Capcom relationship
Posted on 10 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii | 1 Comment
Former Bionic Games creative director Mike Stout has shared some incredibly interesting insight into the development of Spyborgs.
For those who are unaware, Spyborgs is Capcom’s Wii-exclusive title developed by Bionic Games. After its initial reveal, the project underwent a major overhaul following feedback from fans.
Stout says that Bionic had just six months to recreate its game from scratch for Capcom. Amazingly, Capcom ended up shipping an incomplete, pre-beta build in North America as the final version. Unlike Europe, the US received a game with untuned difficulty and companion AI that “just didn’t work.”
Stout also touched on the relationship between Bionic Games and Capcom. Sadly, both companies ended up treating each other very poorly.
You can find all of Stout’s tweets after the break. Please note that some of the messages contain strong lanauge.
