Yuji Naka prison sentence

Original: A verdict has been reached in Yuji Naka’s insider trading case, and the game developer – known for his previous work on Sonic the Hedgehog and more recently Balan Wonderworld – has been sentenced to prison, but he is unlikely to serve time.

The courts made a final judgement today. The big part of the story is that Naka has been given a prison sentence of two years and six months. However, sine he’ll be seeing a four-year suspension, that should allow him to avoid jailtime. He has also been given a couple of fines of two million and 170 million yen.

Another Crab's Treasure preview

Over the years, I’ve made a few attempts at the Soulslike genre – most notably via Bloodborne and the recent Demon’s Souls remake – but have yet to find one that I truly want to sink a lot of time into. I think it’s just a matter of preference, as I don’t have much patience for games that don’t respect the player’s time or are needlessly opaque and difficult – but at the same time, I love games with moderately challenging, strategic real-time combat. It’s why I was so curious to try out Another Crab’s Treasure at Summer Game Fest; finally, here’s a Soulslike game that seems purpose-built for relative genre newcomers like me. After going hands-on with the game, I think this could be the first Dark Souls-inspired game I actually complete.

Kid Icarus Uprising controls

Masahiro Sakurai published a new video on his YouTube channel today about Kid Icarus: Uprising, which goes over the game’s development and he touches on aspects such as the controls. Additionally, he once again expressed interest in seeing a re-release, though that would be “difficult”.

Sakurai starts out by going over the initial history, with late president Satoru Iwata asking him to provide input about the 3DS’ specs and create a game for the hardware. He wanted to develop something for the core audience and ended up going with a third-person shooter. Kid Icarus was chosen due to demand for a new title and Pit’s appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Once you hit 100 points, the theme will be unlocked. The theme includes background art, music, and Tetrimino designs inspired by Pikmin 4.

Little Kitty, Big City preview

Anyone who owns a cat is probably well aware of how quickly they can turn from cuddly, loveable fluffballs into zooming creatures of chaos. While I can’t say I always understand why they feel compelled to, say, scratch at our brand-new barstools or knock over a cup of coffee that I just placed on the counter, perhaps the upcoming sandbox-exploration game Little Kitty, Big City will give me some answers, or at least let me empathize with them a bit more. I was able to play 45 minutes of Double Dagger Studio’s debut game at Summer Games Fest recently, and I’m already floored with it.
