Nintendo will be revealing a new fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at The Game Awards 2020 later today, the company has announced.

No further information has been shared. Nintendo simply says that fans should tune in once the main show starts at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET / 12 AM in the UK / 1 PM in Europe.

The latest Japanese hardware sales from Famitsu are as follows:

Nintendo Switch

Switch had a successful year in China having sold more than 1.3 million consoles in 2020, according to a Bloomberg report. That’s based on sales from legal and gray market channels. Switch actually almost sold double the amount of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One combined in the same period.

Lifetime Switch sales in China now sit at 3.95 million units. This is more than the total of PS4 and Xbox One, which comes in at 3.52 million and 1.24 million respectively.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons hasn’t been approved by the Chinese government yet, but has still been successful. Ring Fit Adventure has also been a hit.

After it was leaked last week, Atlus has officially announced Persona 5 Scramble for the west. The game will launch in North America and Europe on February 23, 2021.

Pre-orders bonuses are planned for two retailers. At Best Buy, you’ll receive a steelbook, digital soundtrack with over 40 songs, digital art book, and behind the scenes video. GameStop is offering a Joker pin.

Persona 5 Strikers

Atlus will also offer a Digital Deluxe Edition for Persona 5 Strikers. It includes the same digital soundtrack, digital art book, and behind the scenes video from Best Buy, but also extra item packs and more music from the Persona series. Just as significant is that you’ll get four days early access with its release scheduled for February 19, 2021.

Nintendo Switch

There are a few different lawsuits in motion when it comes to defending against Joy-Con drift with Switch controllers in the United States. Now, however, there’s significant news coming out of Europe as well.

Today, the Dutch Consumers’ Association asked for Switch owners to report any problems they have experienced with their Joy-Con. It has also teamed up with consumer organizations in Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, and the European umbrella organization BEUC. A joint investigation has moved forward to see what can be done to protect consumers from Joy-Con drift.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition now has a release date. Originally expected this holiday, the game will now release on January 14, 2021.

Nintendo Everything Podcast 107

This week on Nintendo Everything Podcast, there was a Switch firmware update that didn’t have folders. Galen has problems with the image transfer process, but take that with a grain of salt. Galen also finally played something other than Animal Crossing and Destiny – Hades! The Game Awards 2020 are next week, so we made a couple of predictions this week. And Universal Studios Japan announced the opening date for Super Nintendo World. But…isn’t it still unsafe to open during a pandemic? Capitalism at its finest.

Doom Eternal

Panic Button has helped bring a slew of different titles to Switch, but the studio just wrapped up what it says was the team’s most difficult port yet. Doom Eternal is finally coming to Switch, though it certainly wasn’t an easy task to get the game running.

Senior producer Cody Nicewarner and lead engineer Travis Archer at Panic Button recently chatted with Nintendo Everything about the Switch version of Doom Eternal. As part of that, we were able to learn more about the challenges involved during development. Nicewarner and Archer also commented on the Switch version’s frame rate / resolution, plans for DLC, and more.

Drawn to Life: Two Realms

After many years without a new game, Drawn to Life is returning next week with its latest entry, Two Realms. 505 Games now has the franchise rights, and teamed up with Digital Continue to make the new project happen. A number of staffers who worked on previous Drawn to Life games are returning, so it’s looking like it’s in safe hands.

To learn more about Drawn to Life: Two Realms, Nintendo Everything recently spoke with Digital Continue founder Joseph Tringali. Tringali spoke about how the new game to be, reworking the experience for devices that don’t feature a stylus, the story, and what could lie ahead for the franchise’s future.
