Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Monster Hunter Stories, which started on 3DS, was a very different take on the series. It was more about turn-based battles, exploring the world, and advancing the story.

Capcom is now revisiting the concept with Monster Hunter Stories 2, which has just been announced for Switch. A release is planned for Summer 2021.

Here’s the first trailer:

Monster Hunter Rise

The Monster Hunter series thrived on 3DS, but hasn’t seen much action on Switch. Aside from an enhanced port of Monster Hunter Generations, Capcom hasn’t done much with the franchise on Nintendo’s latest system. However, that’s about to change.

During today’s Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, Capcom announced Monster Hunter Rise for Switch. It will launch on March 26, 2021.

Here’s the first trailer:

The latest Japanese hardware sales from Famitsu are as follows:

Super Mario 3D All-Stars

This week’s North American Nintendo Downloads are as follows:

Switch Retail

Super Mario 3D All-Stars – $59.99 (available September 18)
WWE 2K Battlegrounds – $39.99 (available September 18)

Today’s Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase will be starting soon. It begins at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM in the UK / 4 PM in Europe. Like the previous couple of presentations, this one will again focus entirely on upcoming Switch titles from third-party publishers.

You can watch the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase as it happens below. We’ll have additional coverage during and after the broadcast.

RWBY

Arc System Works and WayForward last teamed up for River City Girls. The two sides are now coming together for another project, this time based on Rooster Teeth’s RWBY animated series.

Details haven’t been shared, but the upcoming game is confirmed for launch in 2021. It’ll be released on consoles, and given the support we’ve seen from Arc System Works and WayForward, it’d be shocking to see Switch left out.

Here’s the brief announcement shared on social media:

During an online briefing today, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa offered up vague plans for the company’s future plans on Switch.

Furukawa noted that the company is planning “many games” for Switch in 2021 and beyond. Nintendo also intends to “continue developing hardware to pursue unique entertainment offerings”. Unfortunately, he didn’t elaborate further.

Nintendo currently feels that we’re right in the middle of Switch’s life-cycle.

EA seems slightly more committed to Switch than it had been previously. You may recall that during the EA Play event earlier this summer, it was announced that the company was planning seven games for the platform over the next year.

EA SVP Mike Blank commented a bit more about the company’s plans for Switch in an interview with GamesIndustry. Blank did say that it foresees putting more games on Switch. Additionally, the company could explore bringing the EA Play service over if it makes sense.
