Sonic the Hedgehog was originally envisioned as a very different character. Naoto Ohshima, who designed the Blue Blur, told John Szczepaniak in the latest entry of his Untold History of Japanese Game Developers series that Sonic was originally going to be a human boy.

Following the initial reveal in Weekly Jump last week, Bandai Namco has officially announced Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy for Switch. It’s coming out pretty soon as a release is planned for April 26 in Japan. Pricing is set at 6,800 yen.
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy will support the Joy-Con (including the Joy-Con Grip) and Switch Pro Controller. Using just a single Joy-Con is not supported, however.
[Review] Payday 2
Posted on 7 years ago by Vincent Ward in Reviews, Switch | 0 comments
System: Switch
Release date: February 27, 2018
Developer: Overkill Software / Sumo Digital
Publisher: Starbreeze
Payday 2 originally released in 2013 on most major consoles of the time, all except for the Wii U. It only took a short five years for it to eventually come to a Nintendo system, and so we have Payday 2 on the Switch. Over the past few months, we’ve seen some excellent ports of games onto this system, so it seemed the recipe for perfection was falling into place for this team-based heist shooter. Unfortunately, something that should’ve been super sweet ended up just a little too sour.

Little Nightmares seemingly in development for Switch, ported by Engine Software

New evidence has emerged pointing to a release of the well-received horror puzzle platformer Little Nightmares on Switch. The news comes from the CV of a staffer at Engine Software – a company that has previously handled Switch ports. Engine Software previously worked on The Escapists 2, Blossom Tales, and Monopoly for Switch.
The employee at the studio makes it pretty clear that the port is happening. We have the relevant excerpt from the LinkedIn profile below:

Nintendo says Super Mario Odyssey was always planned for Switch
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 0 comments
The time between Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Odyssey was four years. Super Mario 3D World came to Wii U in November 2013, while Mario Odyssey launched last October.
Since it took several years for a new Super Mario game from EAD Tokyo and Odyssey arrived in time for Switch’s first year, some have wondered if the title was ever in development for Wii U. Nintendo ruled that out in the latest issue of Game Informer.
[Let’s Talk] Switch and ports
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Let's Talk, Switch | 0 comments
One topic brought up when people discuss Switch these days is the amount of ports (or re-releases) the system is receiving. Nintendo itself has brought over a number of games from the Wii U era – normally with a few extras – including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, Bayonetta 1 and 2, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (in May). We’ve also seen games from other platforms make their way to Switch, including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Doom, L.A. Noire, and more.
Some feel that there are too many older games coming to Switch. On the other hand, those in favor of the idea point out the benefit of portable play and how some of these titles were previously not on Nintendo platforms.
What side of the fence do you side on? Do you feel that there are too many ports finding their way to Switch? Or are you in favor of past releases joining the platform? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Voez was made available on the eShop just after Switch’s launch in March 2017. Then just last month, a physical version went on sale in Japan.
That same physical release is apparently coming stateside. We’ve spotted a listing on GameFly, which lists the boxed copy for North America.

Fans datamine Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Rare Blade drop rates
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 0 comments
One of the key elements of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the Blades system. By opening different types of crystals (like Core Crystals), players can add new Blades to their party, including Rare Blades.
As their name implies, obtaining Rare Blades isn’t easy. Unlocking these unique characters have a low percentage. Monolith Soft hasn’t detailed the drop rates, but fans have now datamined this information.

Nintendo.com now letting players publish reviews of Switch games
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS eShop, News, Switch eShop, Wii U eShop | 0 comments
Nintendo.com has updated, and is now allowing players to review Switch titles. Individual game pages should eventually show ratings out of five stars, and possibly the specific reviews as well. We’re not sure if every page has the functionality currently, but many do.
Take Zelda: Breath of the Wild, for instance. Scroll all the way down and you’ll see a section for the user reviews. If you’ve purchased the game under your Nintendo Account and have played at least two hours, you should be able to review it.
