Earlier in the year, Nintendo revealed that the hookshot was scrapped from Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The hookshot has previously appeared in a number of Zelda games, but didn’t make it in for the Switch and Wii U title.

Nintendo spoke more about the hookshot in Zelda: Breath of the Wild and why it wasn’t a fit as part of a new interview with IGN. Series producer Eiji Aonuma started out with the following:

At almost every edition of The Game Awards, Nintendo has been involved in a big way. Aside from 2015, the company has always brought at least one new thing to the show.

Reggie briefly talked with L.A. Times about the importance of The Game Awards. Speaking with the publication, Reggie noted how it’s important “to step back and recognize the incredible artistic achievements that bring joy to millions of people worldwide”, and the event “is our way of recognizing the fun and beauty of video games, along with the talented people who create them.”

BadLand Games announced at the end of November that Heart&Slash will be on Switch sometime this month. It’s not official, but it looks like we have a release date. Nintendo’s North American website as well as on the European eShop list the game for December 22.

In case you missed the news originally, Heart & Slash is a 3D brawler roguelike. We have more information about the game and a trailer below.

The next European Splatfest in Splatoon 2 is underway. In the new event, Team Book and Team Film are battling it out.

This is more than just the typical Splatfest. Nintendo has refreshed Shifty Station, so players can experience a new version of the stage.

The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses has been touring around the world for the past five years. In 2018, the concert will be taking a bit of a break.

You may have noticed that no tour dates have been announced for next year. With 2017 almost coming to an end, we found that a bit odd. We reached out to the folks involved with Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, and were told by a representative that the there are no plans to tour in 2018 at this time.

Pokemon GO

Niantic is still continuing its plans to update Pokemon GO. 50 new Pokemon are due out soon, and a dynamic weather system is being implemented.

Some much-requested features are still missing in action, however. Since the beginning of Pokemon GO, fans have wanted to trade, but that isn’t currently possible. Player versus player battles also aren’t supported.

Amazon has quite a few Nintendo-related discounts running at the moment. Items like the Splatoon 2 Splat & Chat Headset, amiibo, Nintendo books (including the Zelda ones), and more are on sale.

The next Switch game from Arcade Distillery should be out very soon. Over on Nintendo’s North American website, Mecho Tales is listed for December 14.

Here’s a brief overview and trailer:

“An all-new adventure in the world of Mecho Wars! Run and shoot through chaotic platforming levels filled with spikes, bottomless pits and an army of deadly robots. Go it alone or team up with your friends in 4-player local multiplayer. Directed by Luc Bernard.”

Mecho Tales will cost $9.99 on Switch.
