Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all having business practices investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority. The three companies have received letters requesting information about online gaming contracts. GamesIndustry reports that “the CMA intends to examine whether the contract terms are fair, how easy it is to cancel a pre-order or obtain a refund, and how the auto-renewal process is regarding things like regular reminders and default settings.” Consumers can also reach out and share their experiences.
At this time, the CMA hasn’t decided if Nintendo has violated consumer protection law. However, if the “practices are misleading or their terms are unfair,” action could be taken.
