Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda isn’t the only one tweeting about today’s Nintendo Direct. Masahiro Sakurai, director of Super Smash Bros., is joining in on the fun as well.

On his Twitter account, Sakurai mentioned that he’ll be waking up early for the Direct. Might that mean we’ll be seeing some Smash Bros. news later today?

Nintendo x DeNA

DeNA is currently undergoing their earnings briefing for the quarter, and Wall Street Journalist Takashi Mochizuki has given information and screenshots on DeNA’s outlook with their partnership with Nintendo, which makes mention of the recently announced Miitomo and beyond.

Following Miitomo, their social networking service which has a heavy Tomodachi Life aesthetic, two games are planned for release sometime in 2016, with a total of five out by the end of their fiscal year ending March 2017.

Here are some notable points from the handouts regarding the outlook with DeNA’s partnership with Nintendo:

  • Both Miitomo and My Nintendo will be launched globally in 8 languages in 100 countries; launching simultaneously to build a foundation to ensure enjoyment of jointly-developed games over the long term
  • Miitomo delayed to ensure quality and most optimal launch
  • IP will be strategically selected when releasing, including the consideration of major Nintendo franchises
  • Goal is to make multiple hit titles until the collaboration becomes profitable on its own
  • As previously mentioned during its reveal, Miitomo will be free-to-play with optional in-game purchases; monetization methods will be carefully decided based on user expectation and gameplay – same approach will be provided in future titles

Update:

The latest episode of Nintendo’s Japanese show Nyannyan Neko Mario Time has now gone live. We’ve included it below.

Update: Bumped to the top. Mabel can now be pre-ordered here.

Best Buy is now taking pre-orders for some of the Animal Crossing amiibo. You can reserve the new 3-pack as well as the Tom Nook figure. Get your pre-orders in here.

amiibo have started to become more of an option for third-parties as of late. Shovel Knight is getting its own figure, and indie games are beginning to use the variety of figures that Nintendo has already brought out in their projects.

Going forward, amiibo support is something that Keiji Inafune may choose to take advantage of with his games. He told USGamer the following when asked about expanding in that direction for his Nintendo fans:

“That’s definitely an option for us, and if we have the opportunity to do it, then we’ll definitely take the chance. And also, we know for a fact a lot of our backers are Nintendo fans, because we ran a platform survey [for Mighty No. 9], and we see how many people are choosing Nintendo hardware. So it’s definitely something we have to look into.”

At this point, it might be too late to integrate amiibo support into Mighty No. 9. But maybe we could see the functionality in a sequel, spinoff, or whatever’s coming next from Inafune.

Update (11/10): Bumped to the top. Mewtwo is back up for pre-order, though in-store pickup only.

Original (11/8): Best Buy has opened up pre-orders for the Mewtwo amiibo. Get your reservation in here. The figure is due out this Friday for $12.99.

Valhalla Game Studios, developer of the Wii U game Devil’s Third, will be in a court battle on Friday. Valhalla Motion Pictures has filed a trademark dispute against the company, likely for the similarities in name and logo design. We’ll see if anything comes from this in a few days.
